|ENEWS -- September 2012
Mindfulness, the awareness of one’s thoughts, feelings, and sensations, can help one be fully present in each moment and contribute to a sense of well-being. In this issue of eNews we explore mindfulness: how to practice it and how it can benefit both patients and health care providers.
A new article from Virtual Hospice’s spiritual care advisor Rev. Dr. Glen Horst explains the practice of mindfulness and how it can contribute to mental and physical well-being for patients, families and health care professionals.

CONNECTING CHAPLAIN CARE AND HOSPICE USE
A U.S. study of chaplain services and end-of-life care shows that involvement of a chaplain in patient care is correlated with higher use of hospices. The researchers suggest this may be because chaplains help patients and families find care that is in line with their values and wishes.
SCHIZOPHRENIA AND THE END OF LIFE
A new study, led by Virtual Hospice's Dr. Harvey Max Chochinov, has found that people with schizophrenia are less likely than other people to receive adequate medical and palliative care in the last months and years of life.
