GREY LYNN 2030 NOVEMBER NEWSLETTER

Make a submission to ban hard-to-recycle and single use items.

The Ministry for the Environment is currently accepting submissions on their proposal to eliminate some hard-to-recycle plastics and single-use items. The aim of the proposal is to reduce the impact on our resource recovery system and environment, making Aotearoa less wasteful and better equipped to save our earth.

The teams at The Rubbish Trip and Takeaway Throwaways collaborated with a bunch of zero waste organisations to create a series of resources which make it far easier for YOU to make a submission of your own. The public consultation is open until the 4th of December at 5pm, so make your voice heard on this hugely important proposal here.

Volunteers!

Grey Lynn 2030 is a great place to volunteer. With a range of projects throughout the year to build resilience, connectedness and sustainability within our wider Grey Lynn community. We're currently on the hunt for volunteers to help out at the Grey Lynn Farmers Market on Sunday's, as a part of the Grey Lynn Waste Away stall! If you're interested email us here!

WHAT'S BEEN HAPPENING

Zero Waste Network Summit

The Zero Waste Network Aotearoa Summit took place last week, with Zero Waste experts from all over the world giving presentations and insights. Our very own Grey Lynn 2030 Chair, Brigitte Sistig, gave a presentation on the awesome community-led Cup Project initiative which ran earlier this year. You can check out her presentation along with other talks on the event website
#OurZeroWasteWorldSummit

Biketober at GLFM

During October, the Grey Lynn Farmers Market celebrated Biketober. There were specialised areas for bikers to park as well as $5 market vouchers for the first 70 bikes to the market each Sunday. It was an awesome demonstration of how we, as a community can reduce how often we drive cars, and how we can make a significant impact, when we work together. Bike Auckland and the Grey Lynn Farmers Market are currently in the process of collating the data from these events which will be available in the near future, follow the Farmers Market on Facebook to see the results!

WHAT'S COMING UP

Grey Lynn Park Festival

We're now less than two weeks away from the famous Grey Lynn Park Festival! As always, the festival is such a great way to kick off Summer, with music, good food, local produce and organisations (including us!) all in attendance.

We'd love to see you down there on Saturday, November 21st! If you're coming, why not bring along a reusable tote or veggie bag, with your own water bottle, keep cup or #KohaCup and even your own cutlery! Together as a community we can help reduce the amount of single-use waste that festivals like this awesome one can sometimes end up with. It's up to us, so plan ahead, and tell your friends to do the same!
