Happy Holidays From Grey Lynn 2030!

The end of 2020 ... What a year!

We would like to take this opportunity to give a huge thank you to everyone who has supported Grey Lynn 2030 this year and wish you all a restful summertime. It has been a challenging year with many opportunities to learn more about the importance of building strong communities that support each other and look after their people and environment.

Despite these challenges, lots of awesome mahi has been happening in our community this year...

Lockdown Photography Challenge

During Lockdown, we ran the Lockdown Photography Challenge Facebook group, which is documented in this video - showcasing images and short videos from 40+ households, documenting the historic period of Lockdown during the first wave of COVID-19 in Grey Lynn.

Grey Lynn 2030 Waste Away

As always, the Grey Lynn 2030 Waste Away team have been amazing with their commitment to the annual Plastic FREE July. Hope you got a chance to see their fantastic display in the Grey Lynn Library glass cabinet.

The Grey Lynn 2030 Waste Away team also carried out The Cup Project all year round and managed to conduct a feasibility study in the midst of COVID-19 Lockdown Alert Level restrictions. Not only did they engage the Grey Lynn and surrounding communities; they also inspired many communities across Aotearoa who will be joining the project next year. Watch this space!

The GL2030 Waste Away stall with its beautiful alternatives to household plastics and food waste solutions together with the well-loved Re-use station at the Sunday Grey Lynn Farmers Market have been immensely popular as always. They've been going for over a decade, staffed by fabulous volunteers from your community! Thank you!!

Grey Lynn 2030 Car Boot Market

The Grey Lynn 2030 Car Boot Market is still a local Zero Waste favourite! They've been operating now in their 8th year on every last Sunday of the month. Everything is second-hand; so you shop without growing your carbon footprint. Brilliant! Go and visit them next time!

A collaboration with the Grey Lynn Farmers Market

A COVID-19 Community Awareness and Preparedness Grant Fund from the Ministry of Social Development allowed GL2030 to collaborate with the Grey Lynn Farmers Market to supply 50 Auckland Women's Refuge families with fresh food while supporting market stall holders. Communities connecting in challenging times lifts spirits and gives us a sense of belonging. Awesome effort everyone!

Auckland Library of Tools

Our friends from the Auckland Library of Tools celebrated their first birthday this year and are going to be moving to bigger premises in Newton during January/February 2021. Their very reasonable membership fee gives you access to hundreds of tools for construction, gardening, woodwork, and textiles, and they are always sourcing more.

Dignan Street Community Garden

This year we are pleased to have begun a new partnership with Dignan Street Community Garden which the GL2030 Trust umbrellaes with their current Waste Minimisation Innovation Fund grant for their Growing Point project.

That’s a wrap! Thanks again everyone!
See you all back in February next year.
