Volunteers!

Grey Lynn 2030 is a great place to volunteer. With a range of projects throughout the year all to build resilience, connectedness and sustainability within our wider Grey Lynn community. We're currently on the hunt for volunteers to help out at the Grey Lynn Farmers Market on Sunday's, as a part of the Grey Lynn Waste Away stall! If you're interested email us here!

WHAT'S BEEN HAPPENING

Community Recycling Centre Decision!

A new Community Recycling Centre (CRC) with an educational focus in Central Auckland at the Western Springs Garden is now a huge step closer!!

Well done to the Albert-Eden Local Board (AELB) for going forward with this project, after years of work from many of our awesome locals. The idea of a community-led resource recovery centre in central Auckland was first presented at a Grey Lynn 2030 meeting in 2009 by Warren Snow.

The concept became a priority project in Waitematā Local Board's (WLB) first plan established in 2011. Since then, AELB, Puketāpapa Local Board and WLB created a business case in 2015 which identified multiple potential sites but suggested Western Springs as the ideal location. The new announcement means that the centre has been granted a lease and now the project can begin.

The Cup Project Finale Online Event

The Cup Project 8-week feasibility study wrapped up on the 23rd September with a Finale Zoom event, showing the journey of the process to our community and volunteers involved. We were excited to share some of the journey, including that over 413 #KohaCups are now in circulation throughout Grey Lynn!

From here, a report of the study is being formed as well as some guidelines for other communities around Aotearoa who may be interested in running a similar project. We're also excited that due to the success of the Cup Project, Tart Bakery and our friends at Ozone and Crumb are still accepting #KohaCups! They will also be back at the Grey Lynn Farmers Market from next month.

WHAT'S COMING UP

Biketober in Grey Lynn

The Grey Lynn Farmers Market and Bike Grey Lynn have banded together for Biketober! They are offering $5 vouchers to any Farmers Market customers who turn up on their bike during every market in the month of October! Please note the vouchers are limited to the first 70 participants only.

Grey Lynn Glass Jar In & Out Flow!

The Re-use station at the Grey Lynn Farmers Market is a hub of activity every Sunday morning. We're encouraging our community to donate and collect recycled glass jars, moving away from plastic packaging and go bulk food shopping. Using recycled glass jars for things such as your grains, seed/ nut storage, preserves, left over food or any other things is cool and avoids plastic packaging!

Please ensure any glass jars donated are cleaned and also come with their lids. The Re-use station is also a space for swapping egg cartons, dropping off bras for The Uplift Project as well as household batteries and some lightbulbs for recycling.
