GREY LYNN 2030 MAY NEWSLETTER

2021 AGM Updates

On Wednesday the 12th of May we held our 2021 AGM for the Grey Lynn 2030 Trust at the Grey Lynn Community Centre. This year's AGM represented some changes for the Trust, with our long-standing chair Brigitte Sistig ending her tenure. Brigitte volunteered for Grey Lynn 2030 as a Trustee for one year and subsequently as the Chair for the last four years.

You can find the Chair's Annual Report for the last year over on our website. This gives a summary of the key things that Grey Lynn 2030 has done over the past year including initiatives, projects and community engagement.

Thank you to Brigitte!

As above, our Chair over the last four years of the Grey Lynn 2030 Trust, Brigitte Sistig has left the organisation to move onto a new chapter in her life.

The Trust and Grey Lynn as a suburb are eternally grateful for the enormous amount of time, energy, effort and enthusiasm Brigitte put into the community. She has been an immense figure in the growth of the organisation over the past four years, helping us to obtain three years of funding in a row for a paid coordinator, introducing notable projects such as Trash to Trade, Repair Cafe and most recently the extremely successful Cup Project

Her continued efforts and infectious passion for Grey Lynn 2030 Waste Away, in particular has resulted in our community being more engaged than ever in reducing waste and diverting unnecessary single-use or repairable items from going to landfill! Brigitte was also the driver and editor of the 2018 publication, A Decade of Positive Vision and Practical Action, which highlighted the history to date of the organisation, and stands as an important documentation for Transition Towns throughout Aotearoa and beyond.

Further, Brigitte worked tirelessly in a heavily involved COVID-19 response, running numerous initiatives helping our community (and enlisting them) to get through the difficult times during lockdown last year.

Thank you, Brigitte! You will be sorely missed.

New Trustees Announced!

At the AGM on Wednesday evening, our existing Secretary and Treasurer Mary-Anne Parker was announced as the new Chair of the Grey Lynn 2030 Trust! Existing Trustee Grant Hewison remains on board for 2021. We are also welcoming back familiar faces Suzanne Kendrick and Nina Campbell to Grey Lynn 2030 as Trustees as well as newcomer Sacha Connelly.

A huge congratulations to the new Chair and Trustees and all the best for the year ahead! Please keep an eye out on our Facebook, Instagram and Newsletters for further updates in the near future. Our email address for enquiries remains the same.

WHAT'S BEEN HAPPENING

ANZAC Day with Grey Lynn 2030 Waste Away

Grey Lynn 2030 Waste Away got together as a group to create this outstanding wreath in honour of our fallen soldiers on ANZAC Day on April 25th. The wreath is made from recycled materials such as electric cords, bottle tops, pegs, clips and a whole bunch of other bits and pieces collected on beach cleanups or general household waste! They bought it down to the Grey Lynn RSC where the local ceremony was held. Awesome work guys!

Greenpeace Petition

Greenpeace are calling on YOU to sign their petition for a comprehensive bottle refund scheme in Aotearoa. The petition is directed at our Environment Minister, Hon David Parker to support a comprehensive, all inclusive CRS; not a weak scheme that won't tackle the crisis. If this can get across the line, the benefits will be enormous for our community, land and sea.
