||Believe it or not, Art San Diego is just a few short months away. This year's show, a featured event of Balboa Park's Centennial Celebration, promises to dazzle and delight you with not only a vast selection of contemporary art, but also a plethora of exciting entertainment, posh parties, and educational events. Let's take a closer look at what's coming your way from November 5–8 at ASD.
San Diego Art Prize Emerging Artists
Last month, we announced the winners of the San Diego Art Prize, a cash prize that spotlights established and emerging San Diego artists with outstanding achievements in the field of visual arts. The prize-winning established artists that we profiled, Wendy Maruyama and Roy McMakin, chose Peter Scheidt and Kevin Inman respectively as the emerging artists to mentor and exhibit with at Art San Diego. All four award recipients will also exhibit at the Athenaeum Music & Arts Library in La Jolla, CA, from May 7–June 11, 2016. Let's take a closer look at the established artists selected for the 2015 San Diego Art Prize.
Peter Scheidt’s recent studio work explores furniture as a cultural and social formation. Striving to create innovative work that integrates theory and practice, Scheidt often operates in a realm of irony and contradiction, simultaneously respecting furniture’s long craft tradition while working irreverently with furniture objects. Currently a graduate student at San Diego State University, he has been designing and building furniture independently and collaboratively since 2005.
Kevin Inman, a Honolulu-born painter who grew up all over the U.S. and Japan as part of a military family, settled in San Diego after completing his MFA at Radford University. Focused on landscape and cityscape oil paintings, Inman often works outdoors, making intimately scaled plein-air studies that aim to capture the light, color, and atmosphere of a place and to gather information for studio works. For the past several years, Inman has blogged these daily painting efforts. He has exhibited in solo and group shows around the U.S., including the "California Dreaming" exhibition at the Oceanside Museum of Art.
With all the fabulous celebrations going on for Balboa Park's 100th year, we're confident that we'll easily surpass last year's show attendance of 15,000 art lovers. Get your tickets today so you can join us for this unforgettable, event-filled weekend. Alongside innovative art from over 60 exhibiting artists and galleries, we'll have live music, luscious libations, and inspiring art talks to round out the four-day show.
We hope to see you there!
