New Opportunities: Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities Expands Participant-Direction to All Waivers
Effective February 1, 2018, Participant-Directed Homemaker Personal Care became available in the Level 1, Individual Options (IO) and Self Empowered Life Funding (SELF) waivers.
Participant-direction is a little-known option that creates lots of possibilities. We hear families say they’d like to hire their neighbor, or maybe a family friend could provide some support, or even a college student home for the summer. Participant-direction makes this possible. Do you wish your staff had different training, or you could train them yourself? Participant-direction lets you do that. Do you ever wish you could fire one of the people working in your home? Under participant-direction, you can.
Participant-direction gives people enrolled in a waiver more control and authority to decide who provides needed services and how those services are provided.

Use our helpful table to decide what is right for you.

For more information on Participant-Direction you can read DODD’s guide on Choosing Participant-Direction or talk to your SSA.
