Autumn is almost here! Football has begun. The temperature in DFW has even dipped below 90 a time or two. It's this time of year when many companies start to look forward to next year and establish budgets, goals and marketing plans. If you haven't scheduled a few hours to update your marketing plan, do it now! Having a plan - even a flexible one - is so much better than operating without one. REACH's most successful clients are those who have a marketing plan and refer to it often.

A good marketing plan is built around 3Ms. No, not like the sticky notes. Like alliteration: Market, Media and Message. 

Market: Begin with the end in mind. Think about who you're selling to. Who is your typical customer? Describe her. Point out people like her. Even draw a picture of her and post it on a wall in the break room. 

Media: Then start to think about (and research) how your target makes decisions. What does she read? What does she listen to? Whom does she trust? And what appeals to her? Build your plan around the media she is most familiar with.

Message: Finally, develop some killer creative messages that speak to her felt needs. The message should interrupt, engage, inform and ask. Remember, appeal to more than just his logic. Create thirst. Make her want to learn more.

Social Media Minute

This month, REACH will help two clients give away iPads and receive lots of marketing leads in return. What actually started as a suggestion from a client has become of the of the most successful short-term, low-budget campaigns REACH has administered. Last year, REACH organized a social media campaign to give away almost $5,000 worth of prizes for another client. This month's iPad campaign has already gotten as much attention from customers and prospects as that campaign did, and at one tenth the cost. The lesson here? Fads work! iPads are the hot thing right now. Social media is the hot thing. Combine the two, and prospects come out of the woodwork. 
IRVING NEWS
"REACHing Irving"
 
Once again, REACH has been involved in planning and promoting The Great Harvest - the annual fundraising gala for Irving Cares. Irving Cares is a local charity that provides temporary food, counseling, health care and financial assistance to Irving residents in need. This year's banquet, scheduled for September 17 at the Omni Mandalay Hotel at Las Colinas, is the 20th anniversary of the event.
 
Event co-chairs Brian and Stacy Smith (of historic Big State Drug) have done a great job leading the effort. The event attracts a large group of community leaders. This year's event includes both live and silent auctions with prizes such as luxury suite tickets to a Dallas Cowboys home game, a Celebrity Chef Dinner by i Fratelli Italian Restaurant, Lone Star Park Luxury Suite for 20 people, and a  one-week stays on the beach in Port Aransas or on the golf course in Alto, New Mexico. REACH has also helped sponsor an iPad to be given away in a raffle. Tickets are $10 each or three for $25, and they're already available via the Irving Cares website.

If you're like us, it's easy for you to get buried by your inbox or to-do list. Here are three productivity systems we've found helpful. Try them out, but try to avoid Merlin Mann's hair. Clearly that guy spends more time keeping his inbox tidy than his personal appearance or table manners.
