BCL's Own Your Dream: Featuring VA Loans for Veterans!
Did you know? BCL's Own Your Dream program is designed to help provide access to homeownership to all Texans. This November, we are highlighting our VA Loan option, which provides special loan options for military veterans. BCL's VA loan works with the government VA loan program, but in addition, those using the program have access to our down payment assistance grants of up to 3% of the loan amount.
Disabled retired veteran Steven Hanaway, who worked with BCL for a home purchase in 2016. To Steven, having his own home is about having a place where he can live in safety and in comfort.
Steven says, “Take advantage of programs that will help you reach your goals. You’re going to contribute to society and make your impact, so there’s no reason society can’t help you.” Learn more here.
Military veteran Dave Demorrow started All Era Militaria with just two duffel bags of military gear after he left the Army. As a disabled veteran, he knew he couldn’t work a traditional job, so he decided to start his own business using his expertise in military equipment and training.
Over the course of 12 years, All Era has grown, successfully pivoting to include a store, an Air Soft play field, and a military museum, the Temple Museum of Modern Warfare. Demorrow credits his success with being able to adapt and pivot as the business evolved. Read his story here.

Provided financial education to 206 community members
Thank you for investing in our work, BBVA!
BCL leaders Rosa Rios Valdez and Brian K. Marshall met with Austin CDFIs to address key issues related to Homeownership, Personal Finance, and Small Business Lending.
At the invitation of the Wells Fargo Foundation, CEO Rosa Ríos Valdez presented “Collaboration Among Economic Development Firms to Advance Minority Entrepreneurs.”
We always love to see our colleagues, like Betty Davis from Frost Bank, who met with us to talk about ways to partner to help homeowners.
Happy Veterans Day! BCL honors our Brian Marshall, who served in the Air Force for 10 years as a firefighter. Thank you to Brian and all of those who served.
