In his word, I put my hope.
—Psalm 130:5

What Bible stories or verses give you hope in uncertain times?

These past few months have been difficult. The COVID-19 pandemic has affected us all in one way or another, and the events earlier this month have highlighted the need for racial reconciliation in our country and added to our pain.

Now more than ever people everywhere need hope in things eternal—nurtured in the truth from God’s Word and in the fellowship of Christ-focused communities. What a blessing that we have the Bible in dozens of English translations to study and reflect on, not only in tough times but throughout our lives!

JAARS comes alongside our Bible translation and language development partners to help make their work possible, making God’s words of hope and truth available to people living in remote and difficult places. When Scripture becomes available to people in a language that speaks to their hearts, they can soak up God’s truth and promises like a thirsty sponge.

During the “down time” caused by COVID-19 quarantines and social distancing, JAARS is working to strengthen our core and develop new ways to serve. Each year the Campaign for Possible provides important support to JAARS, but this year is critical. We’re stepping up our engagement with our partners in Bible translation globally, and this year’s campaign will provide capacity to strengthen the core of JAARS in these unprecedented times.

Celebrate with the Nali people of Papua New Guinea
Praise God that COVID-19 couldn’t stop an event that the Nali people had looked forward to for over 30 years—the dedication of half of their Nali New Testament. What a special day it was—especially for David, one of the men who first had the vision of translating the Bible.

Pre-field Aviation training is up and running!
Pre-field Aviation training is in progress at JAARS now. Before pilots Dan and Rachel Stoner headed to the field, they came to JAARS for flight training and our Intercultural Communications Course. What difference did this training make?

Unseen Heroes
How do teachers, pilots, or translators get all their goods from their homes in the States to the country where they serve? They call on the Purchasing and Shipping Department at JAARS, of course!

Jesus is our hope!
Think back on those Bible stories or verses that give you hope on difficult days. David facing down Goliath. Daniel walking safely among lions in their den. Jesus feeding hungry people, comforting little children, healing a blind man. His comforting words to confused and troubled disciples: “Surely I am with you always, even to the end of the age” (Matt. 28:20b). What wonderful Truths to share with those who need hope!
Everything we do at JAARS goes back to making Bible translation possible and God’s Truth accessible to people in the world’s most remote and difficult-to-reach places. In these unprecedented times, we continue to put our hope in God and ask him for help as we seek to strengthen our Core Mission Operations—the foundation on which our global support work is built upon.
Please let us know how you are doing. How may we pray for you? Encourage you? Please contact us at info@jaars.org, or call 1.888.773.1178.
