If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.
—James 1:5–6

Does life feel uncertain with all the challenges that you’ve faced so far this year? After all that’s happened in 2020, will you be able to look back and say ‘hindsight is 20/20’? Who knows? The uncertainty of our times and the significant number of challenges facing us all are sharp reminders of our need for wisdom. A good place to turn to are the Scriptures and the familiar, timeless words of James 1:5–8! Here James reminds us that God is generous with wisdom; we only need to ask him for it with a firm faith that God alone is the source of wisdom and that he will answer.

But we must keep our focus on the Lord, and not ourselves. It’s easy to make that shift, isn’t it? Doubt comes if we focus on our limitations, our unworthiness, or thoughts that the challenge we’re facing is too big. Let’s keep our minds, hearts, and souls fixed on God and lean on him for the wisdom we need to face the challenges each day brings.

That’s what we strive for at JAARS. We work with our partners to seek the best solutions for supporting the Bible translation, Scripture engagement, and language development happening in some of the most remote and difficult-to-reach places in the world. It’s encouraging to see in the stories below how Kingdom work is advancing in some faraway places.

No writing system? No problem!
What may seem like an obstacle to us—whether it’s the inability to read or other challenges—may just be the opportunity God uses to reveal himself in a creative new way. Read more about how JAARS helped provide audio Scriptures for a South Asian community.
A South Asian community now has access to Scripture

"Be very suspicious of your runway."
Termite mounds, ovens, and dogs, oh my! Although these may seem like ordinary objects to us, to mission pilots landing or taking off on remote airstrips, they create extraordinary hazards. If they show up on a runway, they can cause destruction or even death. Read more about how Pre-field Orientation helps prepare pilots for hidden dangers.
Defining Moments: "I've learned a new way of life.”
Watch and listen as JAARS pilot Mike Mower tells about a defining moment experienced by a man and his village in the mountains of the southern Philippines.
The world is facing big challenges that filter down to our individual lives—dealing with the effects of COVID-19, wondering whether to send our kids to school or homeschool them, helping our kids adjust to virtual learning, working from home, whether to open churches, and so much more. As you face challenging circumstances in your life, remember that wisdom from God is available for the asking.
If you or someone you care about is facing difficulties that we can pray about, our team would love to do that. Just send your prayer requests to, or call 1.888.773.1178.
