Meet DG Jim
Lion Jim Spanberger is a member of the Meridian Lions Club and has been a Lion since 1986. Many Lions may remember Jim as the owner of Raedean's Restaurant in Boise, home of famous cinnamon rolls. Jim still enjoys cooking along with wine tasting, golfing (although he says he's not good at it), and biking on the green belt.
Jim is originally from Wisconsin, the son of German immigrants. His wife, Nancy, is from Southern California, and they have lived in Idaho since 1984. The have 3 children, 4 grandchildren, and 2 shih tsus.
Jim's wife Nancy works at St. Luke's and is involved with Special Olympics. She loves spending time with the grandchildren, walking, knitting, and sewing.
You can reach DG Jim at email@example.com or 208-861-9625.
Cabinet Meeting Scheduled
DG Jim Spanberger's first Cabinet Meeting will be held on Saturday September 9 at 9:00 am at the Envision meeting room located at 1090 N Cole Rd. in Boise. September's newsletter will bring you up to speed on District plans and goals for the year. If you are interested in serving as a chairperson for the district, contact DG Jim-he'll have a job for you!
It's had its bumps and bruises along the way, but MyLion is up and running and it is now the way to enter your service activities. While any Lion can log in to MyLion and add a future activity, only the club president, secretary, service chair, or club admin can report. This can take the tech load off the club secretary by designating another club member to report. MyLCI is still the system to report membership changes. Questions? Give Lion Kathy D. a shout at firstname.lastname@example.org or 208-866-1545
District 39W will be using the Directory Spot app and website again this year for our directory. Updated club presidents and secretaries have been added as well as cabinet members, zone chairs, PDGs, Envsion staff and trustees, and 39E governors. If you are new to your position you'll get a welcome email with instructions. If you don't hold one of these positions, you can still use the app. Ask the district governors or zone chairs for the password.
This app (for Android, Apple or desktop) allows you to find a Lion officer by name or by club or group, lists their email and phone number, and lets you call or email right from the app and keeps our information secure.
Vision Screening Reporting
It's back to school time and that means it's time to warm up the PlusOptix screeners. Please remember to log your screening hours, the number of children screened and their age groups, and the number referred. Are you following up to see if those referred actually get an exam? Utilize the school nurse or teachers to follow-up with parents to make sure kids are getting the help they need.
Report your hours using MyLion, and send to Chris@idaholions.org. We also have a reporting form you can use (preferred!) on our website.
Newsletter Editor Job Opening
Do you enjoying keeping up to date on Lions club and district 39W District activities? Can you write a sentence or two and have a minimal amount of computer skills? Your district needs you as the newsletter editor! It doesn't pay very well (or at all) but you'll be giving back to your fellow Lions, improving our district's communication, and learning a thing or two. Current editor will get you set up, partner with you, or whatever you need. The time commitment is only a couple or three hours a month. Talk to Kathy D. to get started.

39W Facebook Group
If you're on Facebook and not a member of the Lions 39W Share and Discuss group, you're missing out. This is the spot to ask a question of your fellow District Lions, share events, and be among the first to hear the news.
You can add Lions to the group. All new adds will be asked to answer a question to join. This ensures that only District 39W Lions join (we do accept 39E Lions) and that the person being added wants to join.
Every Lion can post something-just keep it related to 39W Lions.
Need some help at an event? Want some Lions to show up at your charter party? How about some bragging about the project you just completed? Let us know at Lions39W@gmail.com or post it on our Facebook group. Let's celebrate our service!
Happening now and through the end of the week-the Caldwell Lions have their concession booth open at the Caldwell Night Rodeo. Go have some burgers or tots and the famous finger steaks.
Next weekend at the Warhawk Museum the Meridian Lions will be making tacos at the Warbird Round Up. It's a great event to see some old airplanes and nothing's better than tacos.
The Walk to End Alheimer's (Boise area) is October 5 at 11:00 am at Kleiner Park in Meridian. Register for the Boise Valley Lions team and walk with team captains Curt Kelley and Larry Kidd. Lions and not yet Lions can join the team and Lions are encouraged to wear their vests. The Walk is free; donations are optional.
If you're going to the Western Idaho Fair, register your kids or grandkids or just stop by and say hi at the Boise Bench and Boise Vista Found Kids Booth.
Notes from the editor
If you are a club secretary or president, it's your responsibility to share the newsletter with your club-the mailing list does not, unfortunately, include everyone.
If you are not on the mailing list and want to be added, use the subscribe link or contact me directly. Snail mail available on request.
If you have club events, news, photos, speakers, projects to share, please send to me or to your zone chair for publication. Have a flyer? Send that, too. I can't make up enough stuff to fill the newsletter, although I try.
Publication is the 10th; deadline to submit news is flexible, but end of the month is preferred.
Comments, suggestions, complaints-always welcome!
