Supporting Diabetes Awareness

District 39W and Camp Hodia invite all Hodia campers, their families, and the Lions to a diabetes community event at The Farmstead Corn Maze in Kuna on October 21 anytime between 4:00 pm and 9:00 pm. Lions and their guests will pay $10 to enjoy the corn maze and other activities and games. Watch for more information in the next couple of weeks. You are encouraged to RSVP and pay in advance  This is an opportunity for Lions to begin a partnership with Camp Hodia, recruit new members, and  have some Halloween fun.  Volunteers are need to help with the event. Contact  Tim Vincent or Joe Jara.

Patriotism Essay Contest

The annual Patriotism Essay Contest has been announced. The contest is open to students in grades 1-6. Lions clubs can sponsor this contest in their local schools for any or all of the grade levels. Winning essays are sent to the District 39W chair. Winners from that contest are sent to Multiple District 39. Winners at that stage are invited to the MD (Multiple District) Convention in Sun Valley in May to read their essay and receive an award.

This year's topic is "How Important Is Patriotism in My Community Today?" Rules and cover sheets will be posted on the website and included in a future newsletter.

MyLion Reporting

Just a reminder in case you missed it: any president, secretary, service chairperson, or club admin can be the reporter for a club.

Lions are asked to report club service activities and projects, fundraisers, and partnerships with other organizations. Meetings may be reported if you wish, but it is not necessary. Non Lions club service performed by an individual member outside of Lions club should not be reported.

For instructions for creating a new activity in MyLion and reporting an activity in MyLion, watch these quick videos.

New Member Inductions

Don't forget to induct your new members as soon as you can so they feel like they are part of your club. Any Lion can do the induction ceremony, but it's extra special if you invite one of the DG team, zone or region chair, or even a president from another club to do the honors. Keys to memorable induction: make it fun, informative, personalized, and classy.

New member kits are available from LCI free of charge. They contain certificates, pins, coupons, stickers, and information. If you don't have time to order from the Lion Store, contact your DG team.

Boise Bench Lions

The Boise Bench Lions staffed the Found Kids Booth at the Western Idaho Fair from noon until 11 pm. Nearly 1300 children were registered with a numbered arm band and the contact information for the parent or guardian. Lost kids contacted fair security or vendors and then were brought to the booth and the Lions reunited them with their parent.

Midvale Lions

Midvale Lions had a special guest at a recent meeting-Miss Idaho, Grace Zimmerman. Grace is from Weiser where she was charter president of the Leo Club. She is currently a member of Moscow Central Lions Club and will be a senior at the University of Idaho when she resumes her studies after her duties with the Miss America Competition The Scholarship Competition is Dec. 19 on NBC.

Notes from the editor

If you are a club secretary or president, it's your responsibility to share the newsletter with your club-the mailing list does not, unfortunately, include everyone.
If you are not on the mailing list and want to be added, use the subscribe link or contact me directly. Snail mail available on request.
If you have club events, news, photos, speakers, projects to share, please send to me or to your zone chair for publication. Have a flyer? Send that, too. I can't make up enough stuff to fill the newsletter, although I try.
Publication is the 10th; deadline to submit news is flexible, but end of the month is preferred.
Comments, suggestions, complaints-always welcome!
