Lavaca Neighborhood Association
Victoria Commons: Next Step

You are invited to a public meeting to review and discuss options for further development of Victoria Commons.

When: Wednesday, November 16
Where: Victoria Plaza Apartments, 411 Barrera Street

5 - 6 pm: Open House
6 - 8 pm: Presentation and Feedback Session

As we've reported previously (here and here), the San Antonio Housing Authority (SAHA) is planning the next development steps for Victoria Commons, in the northeast corner of the neigbhorhood (see the map below).

Many of you have contributed your ideas, either by participating in one of several recent meetings hosted by SAHA or by "voting" your preferences at the National Night Out Block Party last month.

SAHA and its consultants have distilled that input and now want to read it back to us, to be sure they've got it right. They've also developed a number of options for each of the sites within the planning area, and they want to present those options for our feedback. The aim, according to SAHA's Brad McMurray, is to collect public comment that will help shape a more refined master plan to be presented to the SAHA Board. Ultimately, that plan will go to the City for review and approval.

"This meeting is the next step of the process," says Brad. "It will involve some review of past input, but it will also present some concrete ideas for the neighborhood to review before a final proposal is drafted."

Included in the presentation will be information on building scale and design; economics; traffic and parking; parks and street improvements; and new retail space.

You're welcome to drop in to the open house and speak informally with members of the planning team between 5 pm and 6 pm and then join the formal presentation and discussion between 6 pm and 8 pm. This meeting is right here in the neighborhood, so it's a an especially good opportunity to participate.
