Western Australia Tourism – What’s Next?
Tourism is continuing to grow as an important contributor to Western Australia’s economy. The weak Australian dollar and the commodities downturn have benefited tourism – by making us a cheaper destination and freeing up accommodation and service capacity, leading to an increase in Chinese tourists.
WA Premier and Tourism Minister Colin Barnett, recently announced Perth would be featuring more in the State’s tourism advertising as a destination in its own right, rather than just a gateway to the regional areas of Western Australia. This is to show the world the ‘Rebirth of Perth’ which has seen recent extraordinary growth in infrastructure, hotels, bars and restaurants. This re-focus is part of Tourism Western Australia’s (WA) new marketing campaign “Just Another Day in WA”. This campaign will soon be rolled out into the international market.
Our speaker Gwyn Dolphin is the acting CEO of Tourism WA, the State Government economic development agency responsible for promoting tourism.
