We Are Friends Spotlight on
Executive Director, Tracey Flower

A few weeks ago we welcomed our new Executive Director, Tracey Flower. Tracey is a Michigan native and a Grand Valley State University alum who spent the last ten years living in Vail, Colorado, where she explored endless Rocky Mountain hiking and biking trails, played in the snow and worked, most recently, as Executive Director for the Vail Symposium, a 45-year-old nonprofit organization which provides lifelong learning opportunities for the Vail Valley community.

Now that she has returned to sea level, Tracey is looking forward to exploring the great outdoors in her home state and to getting to know the people and places that make up the Grand Rapids community.

At Friends of Grand Rapids Parks, she looks forward to engaging new and old community partners in order to execute programs and initiatives that will not only improve the experience of enjoying Grand Rapids parks and public spaces in underserved neighborhoods but will also foster new community parks leaders, with whom Friends can work side-by-side, for continued growth in this and other areas.

Quick Q&A with Tracey:

Q. Best thing about living in Grand Rapids?
A. The parks, of course! But I’m also so excited about all the fantastic restaurants and cultural events the city has to offer.

Q. Favorite food?
A. Tacos!

Q. Favorite place in Michigan?
A. On the beach in my hometown, South Haven.

Q. Favorite thing to do on a Sunday afternoon?
A. It’s a toss up between hanging out with my five-month-old niece and going for a nice long solo hike somewhere wild and woodsy.
