A look back at an amazing year
 

We want to sincerely thank our supporters and partners working toward a more green, vibrant, and fun Grand Rapids this year. Because of friends like you, we are able to celebrate another great year improving our community parks, urban forest, and public spaces.

Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!

Jan/Feb - we celebrated the cold at WinterWest and Dotti Clune was honored as National Volunteer of the Year by Alliance for Community Trees

March - we moved into a new office and kicked off the Citizen Forester program

April - Wilcox, Cherry, & Riverside won the MYGRCITYPOINTS park prize and we had our largest Arbor Day Tree Planting ever, planting many of the 489 trees planted by volunteers this year.

May - we won the National Leadership in Urban Forestry Award from the Arbor Day Foundation

 

June - we hosted our first annual membership meeting, helped cut the ribbon on Oakdale Gardens Park, and piloted the workyard kit at Re:State

July - We publically endorsed the Yes! GR Parks campaign to secure dedicated funding for parks

August - Green Gala was the biggest yet, we partnered with Downtown Grand Rapids, Inc.to launch Movies in the Park, and raised funds for tree planting through the Brewers' Grove Beer

September - hundreds of volunteers made a difference on National Day of Caring contributing to the 10,000 volunteers hours we helped mobilize this year

October - we celebrated trees with National NeighborWoods Month

November/December - the Parks Millage Passed and Pleasant Park broke ground with a DePave Ceremony

The Friends of Grand Rapids Parks is an independent, citizen led, nonprofit enterprise with the mission to identify specific park projects, mobilize people, and generate resources to protect, enhance, and expand the city's parks and public spaces.

Our Vision

Grand Rapids is abundant with inviting and vibrant parks and public spaces that contribute to a healthy and prosperous city.

What we want to see (in a nutshell)

Parks that provide access to outdoor recreation opportunities, support healthy lifestyles, and sustain clean water, land and natural habitat, which in turn attract businesses and visitors, and increase prosperity for a healthy economy.
