According to Kate McAllister in the ever relevant film Home Alone, “This is *Christmas*. The season of perpetual hope.”  Yeah, yeah perpetual hope is great and all, but what about the more appropriate titles of “the season of spending too much money” or “the season of not knowing what to buy?” In my experience as a holiday season consumer, many of the good things about the holidays are overshadowed by the blind rage of not finding a gift in my price range. Our friends at Yelp saw this problem, and came up with a way to remedy blind holiday rage with Yelp’s Totally Bazaar at City Market.

The event is free, so you're already winning. 50+ vendors of local wares sure to fit the tastes of every person on your holiday list - not to mention to delight your taste buds with food and drink from many lovable Indy vendors. One of the greatest things about this event is that Flat 12 Bierworks is offering two of the most beautiful words in the English language: FREE BEER. Free beer to the first 200 people through the door of the historic City Market. If that doesn't make you say "I am going to be unfashionably early," I cannot help you. Getting there early also ensures that you will not miss out on any of the great products. Since this event is on a location, there is a limited amount of product at the Bazaar. Of course, talking with the fine vendors about getting a product at a later date is encouraged, but I thought you wanted to get all of your shopping done in one go…while you were full of beer…

Buying local gives the gift giver a new sense of accomplishment. Yes, you could have bought your friend something from a nationally known store, but by buying locally made goods, it’s like your gift giving has reached the level of movie taglines…see: THIS TIME IT’S PERSONAL. Last year I was overwhelmed with how I could peruse the booths at the Bazaar and see my friends and family enjoying these items that seemed tailored to them!

Yelp’s Totally Bazaar is taking place on Thursday, December 13th from 6 to 10pm. Yelp will be providing reusable tote bags to carry all of the wonderful gifts you purchase. This event is open to the public 21 and up, so please bring your ID. I’ll see you there! I’ll be the one trying to balance a sudsy brew and a shopping bag full of goodies.
