Welcome to the latest edition of the Optimec mailer and possibly the first chance I have had to wish everyone a Happy New Year!
We go to great lengths to ensure that all instruments leave our factory 100% accurate. In fact, much like many of the customers we sell to we have systems in place to ensure that it is impossible for an instrument that doesn’t conform to specifications to be shipped out. However, over time, when used on a daily basis (in fact some of our customers are using JCF’s on a 3 shift, 24 hour production basis!) and when subject to the “normal” kinds of things that happen in the workplace – an instrument can sometimes require a little re calibration. For this reason we produce highly accurate test pieces and calibration buttons. Not sure what you need? Give us a call.
Buying new instruments can be a big investment, so, whenever possible it makes sense to get a demonstration. If you’d like to see a JCF, JCM or TC20i put through it’s paces then make sure you visit the Optimec booth at the upcoming EFCLIN meeting in Barcelona, Spain. You can find more details here

Calibrate, Check & Test – How To Know What You’re Measuring!

Although built to very high standards Optimec instruments like the JCF & Chiltern do require regular calibration checks. This is to ensure that the normal “wear & tear” of life in a production environment doesn’t make adjustments that you would rather not have! Optimec produces a range of calibration pieces and test buttons all manufactured highly accurately and to very tight tolerances. We’d be happy to advise on what you might need to bring your instrument “back into line” – just give us a call on +44 (0)1684 892 859 or e-mail us on for more details.
Corrosion – Make Sure It Doesn’t Take Up Residence In Your Instruments

It’s a basic rule of chemistry unfortunately. Place the right (or wrong!) kind of metal in the presence of saline and sooner or later you’ll end up with some corrosion…put another way, things go rusty!

Although the cells on instruments like the JCF, JCF/F, Chiltern, JCM & SAG all use the highest quality stainless steel in their construction, instrument cabinets can become susceptible to corrosion if their painted surfaces are damaged.

The good news is that we offer a full repair and refurbishment service for these parts of your Optimec instruments as well. All we need is a chance to get a look at the instrument in question (often digital pictures are just fine) and we can produce a quotation. So don’t let saline “eat away” at your lab, just give us a call on +44 (0)1684 892 859 or e-mail us on for more details.

Cool & Controlled Under Pressure –The TC20i Of Course

There’s little dispute over the fact that accurate temperature control can greatly influence both the accuracy and reproducibility of soft contact lens measurement. Instruments like the JCF, JCM & SAG achieve a whole new level of performance when teamed up with a TC20i. The modern digital electronic backbone of the TC20i ensures superb accuracy and the ability to maintain the desired measuring conditions even in the most challenging environments.

If you would like to find out more about how the TC20I can improve the measurement capability in your lab give us a call on +44 (0)1684 892 859 or e-mail us on
