The Excellence Initiative - Research University Program Team

New grants on Horizon

More than 600,000 EUR from Horizon and EU4Health Programs will be granted to researchers at the Medical University of Gdańsk. Three laureates will be implementing projects in oncology, which is one of the priority research areas at GUMed.
As part of the CINDERELLA. Clinical Validation of an AI-based approach to improve the shared decision-making process and outcomes in Breast Cancer Patients proposed for Locoregional treatment project (funding of 272,375 EUR) directed by Paweł Kabata, MD from the Department of Surgical Oncology, we have planned a multi-center clinical trial utilizing AI technology to simulate outcomes of surgical treatment for breast cancer. In the RadioVal. International Clinical Validation of Radiomics Artificial Intelligence for Breast Cancer Treatment Planning project (funding of 318,750 EUR) created by Maciej Bobowicz, MD from the Second Department of Radiology, both repositories and AI will be implemented to validate outcomes of neo-adjuvant chemotherapy (NAC). Also, Professor Jacek Jassem, the head of the Department of Oncology and Radiotherapy is the author of the INTERACT-EUROPE. Innovative collaboration for inter-specialty cancer training across Europe project, which will help develop innovative international teaching programs for healthcare professionals in oncology. The project has been awarded funding of 11,235 EUR.
Congratulations to the laureates!

Young Science Creators have a voice in March

Almost a year ago, the first laureates of the university grant competition Young Science Creators have been awarded. We will spend almost 2 million zlotys for research projects under the Excellence Initiative - Research University program. During the First Research Conference of Young Science Creators planned 2-3 March this year as an on-line event, almost 50 researchers will share their preliminary results. We invite you all to take part in a scientific discussion.
The preliminary program of the meeting is available here (however, it can still be slightly changed).
The link for the Zoom meeting will be sent in the next newsletter.

Core facilities of the MUG. Central Biobank

The next unit supported by the EIRU program is the central Biobank directed by Elżbieta Stankiewicz, Ph.D. The Biobank staff help researchers in terms of inventarization and management of biological samples, including refrigerator mapping as well as organization and electronic evidence of the collected samples. Such a register makes it significantly easier to manage the collections and allows for quick and accurate location of each sample.

In Building 15, a new room for refrigerators with temperature monitoring system have been completed and put to use. The users can track it in real time using a mobile application. We are working to implement similar solutions for the total of 120 MUG refrigerators. In Biobank, we are also developing program for management of biological samples collected at the MUG. It is intended to facilitate international research cooperation.
