The Excellence Initiative - Research University Program Team

New Horizon at the MUG

As part of the IDUB programme, the Medical University of Gdansk has prepared another initiative to support staff interested in applying for and implementing projects under Horizon Europe.
Researchers will be able to get assistance in:
- preparation of individual strategies for applying for Horizon Europe grants,
dedicated training and consultancy to prepare for application and implementation of projects,
- support in preparing applications for European Research Council grants and for grants implemented in consortia,
- support in management of projects from Horizon Europe.
The program is open to research and research and teaching staff who belong to at least one basket within Priority Research Areas and have knowledge of English at the level of C1 or higher. The first call for applications runs until February 20 this year.
The regulations of the new program can be read on the Extranet. In the planned activities we will be supported by, among others, TTOPSTART consulting company and the Office for Scientific Excellence of the Polish Academy of Sciences.

Core Facilities of the MUG. Cardiovascular Imaging Laboratory

Another laboratory supported under the IDUB program is the Cardiovascular Imaging Laboratory, which is one of the pillars of the Centre for Translational Medicine. The Core facility was established to pursue transdisciplinary projects in which the assessment of cardiovascular structure and function may have cognitive and clinical relevance. Ongoing research includes standard and innovative methods to assess the cardiovascular system at every level, from echocardiographic imaging of the heart, to assessment of large vessel function (pulse wave propagation within the aorta, dilation of intracerebral arteries), to functional and structural assessment of the microcirculation.
The laboratory also offers the possibility to assess autonomic nervous control of both breathing and circulation, i.e. two inseparable systems sharing common regulatory mechanisms. The choice of research methods available in the Laboratory was preceded by consultations with external experts, thanks to which it was possible to create an optimal model for obtaining a comprehensive cardiovascular phenotype, far beyond the standard clinical assessment.
Detailed information about the research methods available at the Laboratory and contact information can be found at www.
Incubator - call for applications for funding of implementation projects continues

Researchers can, until 22 December this year, submit applications for support for research and development and pre-implementation work aimed at increasing the market potential of conducted research towards future implementation of research results. The maximum grant is PLN 150 thousand, and the project can cover the costs of laboratory work, purchase of materials and raw materials, preparation of a prototype, research services, expert opinions, analyses and reports necessary for proper implementation of the project, as well as costs of patent protection.

Applications may be submitted by MUG employees, participants of full-time doctoral studies at MUG and the first MUG Doctoral School, who conduct research at the University with implementation potential.

Details and required documents can be found on the website. For information, contact Marcin Stolarek (

The call for applications is conducted under the Excellence Initiative - Research University Program. About other initiatives within the Program you can read here.

Work within the Basket is coordinated by Prof. Anna Żaczek from the Department of Translational Oncology, Dr. Michał Bieńkowski from the Department of Pathomorphology and Dr. Marcin Skrzypski from the Department of Oncology and Radiotherapy. Researchers associated in the team focus, among others, on new prognostic markers in the therapy of malignant tumors, next-generation sequencing in diagnosis and monitoring of cancer, genetic and epigenetic features of selected cancers and liquid biopsy. They collaborate with centers in the United States and the United Kingdom.
