IN THIS ISSUE:

Tickets are still available to many outstanding films, including:

NUTS!

Today (Friday) at 9:30 a.m., Saturday at Noon, and Sunday at 9:00 p.m. at  Varsity Theatre

The mostly true documentary of John Romulus Brinkley, a Kansas doctor who claims he can cure male impotence by transplanting goat testicles into men. A smart tale that combines film footage and animation to tell the story of how Brinkley pulled off this huge con and what happens when it all came crashing down. Premiered at Sundance Film Festival.

“One of Penny Lane’s best pictures, Nuts! is quite a brilliant way to tell a peculiar story. …  Nuts! gleefully lives up to its title.” – The FilmStage.com

Louder Than Bombs

Today (Friday) at 9:15 p.m. Ashland Historic Armory

Three years after her unexpected death, the preparation of an exhibition celebrating a famous war photographer brings her husband and two sons together for the first time in years. When an unsettling secret resurfaces, the three men must view each other and themselves in a new light, re-defining their innermost needs and desires.

“Bombs asks the audience to bring their brains, eschewing grand catharsis in favor of subtle psychological nuance, resulting in a film that runs both slender and cold on the surface, but rewards the arthouse audiences willing to give it a deeper reading.” – Variety
