New Development Builds on BioPark Success

Redevelopment of the historic Lion Brothers Building near the University of Maryland BioPark is a powerful sign of continuing revitalization in West Baltimore. The former factory at South Poppleton and Hollins streets is set to reopen in December, and already has lined up tenants for two-thirds of its 37,500 square feet of space. Read more.

Jonathan oversees all aspects of property operations at the 800 and 801 West Baltimore Street buildings and the BioPark parking garage.  His responsibilities include financial reporting, budgeting, contracting, close integration with the building engineers and ensuring tenant requirements are met in a complete and timely manner. 

Dr. Charles B. Simone, II Appointed Medical Director of the Maryland Proton Treatment Center

Charles B. Simone, II, MD, a nationally-recognized expert in proton therapy at the University of Pennsylvania, has been named the new Medical Director of the MPTC. Dr. Simone will also be appointed Associate Professor in the UM SOM Department of Radiation Oncology and will begin in his new position in November 2016. Read more.

On August 16th, Vizuri held a lab dedication ceremony in memory of its founder, Phil Birbara. The entire Vizuri team hosted Phil’s family here in Baltimore in honor of his dedicated work ethic. Speakers included Bruce Artman, VP of R&D, Rick Peterson, Managing Director, Heather Meyer, Manager, Business Development, and Jamie Birbara, Son of Phil Birbara.

In the spring of 2015 Shannon Gibbons, Acting CEO of NPower, visited Baltimore to investigate launching NPower’s signature program, the Technology Service Corps, as a powerful new source of IT training for underserved young adults in Baltimore City. The Abell Foundation and the UM BioPark served as NPower’s initial advisors and champions. Just over a year later NPower opened their training facility in the Abell building on West Pratt Street and welcomed their first class of 25 Baltimore students.
