Member Spotlight
Citizenship Counts

Alliance Member Citizenship Counts is a non-partisan 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to inspiring today’s youth by engaging them in a civics education program that teaches them to appreciate the value and responsibilities of citizenship. Their core curriculum promotes pride in American citizenship and encourages students to be involved in their communities. They empower young people to be responsible, participatory and socially-just citizens who appreciate the benefits of living in a diverse, inclusive, democratic country.

Beginning in January of 2012, Board Member Diane Eckstein, her husband John, and their dog Kipp will walk and bike across the United States of America – from San Diego to New York City (3,500 miles) to promote engaged citizenship and to promote awareness of the naturalization process. The mission of the Journey is to raise awareness of the Citizenship Counts program and to raise $3.5 million that will be used to expand the program throughout the United States.

We are so proud to have Citizenship Counts on our Membership Roster, and look forward to following the Journey throughout 2012. Click here to read more>
Getting Your Board on Board:
Activate and Energize Your Most Valuable Asset

FREE event presented by the Alliance of Arizona Nonprofits and First Nonprofit Foundation
Once upon a time people entered an organization and spent years working their way up through a series of leadership positions of increasing responsibility. Those days are gone. New additions to the board must hit the ground running. A thorough and effective orientation can make that possible. But too often orientations are an afterthought or nonexistent. Even thorough, well planned orientations are, all too often, boring. It doesn’t have to be this way. This 3-hour interactive session will leave you with valuable and creative ideas to make your board more cohesive, knowledgeable, and powerful right out of the gate.

Featured speaker Terrie Temkin, Ph.D., brings 30 years of experience in nonprofit management, organizational communication, and adult education to the discussion. She’ll share practical examples from her work as a senior consultant in the areas of governance, board development, and planning.

Space for this event is limited and a large group is expected. Please register early. Seminar materials and a continental breakfast will also be provided.

Date/Time: February 23 @ 8:30 am
Location:  Phoenix Catholic Diocese
Cost: Free; registration is required
