Kathleen Thomas
AmeriCorps*VISTA Capacity Building

The Alliance would like to welcome the newest member of our team, Kathleen Thomas. Kathleen moved to Phoenix from upstate New York for a year of service through the AmeriCorps VISTA Program. She assists in building capacity for the Alliance so that we can better serve our members. Kathleen recently graduated from SUNY Binghamton where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in business administration with a focus on marketing and management information systems. She's most excited to learn more about the nonprofit sector as well as further developing her skills.
Thank you to everyone who made Arizona Gives Day 2017 a huge success!
Arizona Gives Day 2017 has come and gone but its impact will live on all year long. On Tuesday, April 4, 2017, from 12:00am through 11:59pm, Arizonans came together by the thousands and donated more than $2 Million to Arizona nonprofit organizations. To all of the donors, the 1,000+ participating nonprofit organizations, the businesses who supported the efforts of us here at the Alliance as well as working directly with nonprofits in their local communities, and of course to our sponsors. Your dedication to Arizona's nonprofit community never ceases to amaze us.

We're still collecting information and tallying data and will publish more results soon.

So what about next year?
Well, details are still in the works, but if you didn't get in on the acction this year, you can get registered for Arizona Gives Day 2018 by visiting
Stop working so hard to replace lost donors and start focusing on keeping committed donors to help your organization reach new heights!
Tuesday, April 11, 10:30-11:30am.

Arizona Gives Day isn't the end. In fact, it's just the beginning of a bright future with your new and returning donors. But in order to grow your donors and motivate them to give more, you have to actually keep them as donors first.

In this webinar, fundraising consultant and professional Nancy Grace will share actionable insight on understanding your donors. She also offers strategies for treating them, keeping them and deepening your relationship with them. Nancy will offer advice and tactics on how to make the most of both donors you attract online as well as those you interact with in person.

Nonprofit News
It’s true that social media is in transition. Facebook Reach is at an all time low. Instagram has a new algorithm. Twitter is in flux. And the next Big Thing in social media, Snapchat, is baffling to many seasoned social media managers. But digital and mobile app payments are coming. The global internet population is set to triple in the next four years. The Internet of Things will transform our world. And email ROI and online giving is up, up, up! In reality, the peak years of email, online fundraising, and social media are ahead of us and the next decade will astound us all. [more]
Every organization dreams of recruiting and retaining a board of visionary planners, generous investors, willing askers, and passionate pragmatists. Despite these yearnings, too many boards are assembled without a strategy. Board selection is pushed by a date when a “slate” must be presented. Frenzied phone calls result in the inappropriate recruitment of people who may be well intentioned but not able to propel the organization to the next level. Those recruited in haste are often assured “there’s nothing to it.” They’re told such things as “You don’t have to do anything but come to meetings” or, worse yet, “We just need your name—please say yes.” [more]
Congratulations, you’ve just been appointed to one of the more prestigious nonprofit boards in your community! You’re really excited, because you have a passion for the organization’s mission and have heard nothing but great things about it. But after the warm glow cools down a little, you realize the pressure is on—how are you going to make your mark and really contribute to the organization? Start with asking the executive director or board chair these five questions and let their answers guide you to success. [more]
