Resurrection Sunday

We're just a few days from the highlight of our year, Easter Sunday! First, of course, comes Good Friday which we'll commemorate at 7:00PM at Kennicott. But the resurrection of Jesus is the highlight because it changes everything.

We might be tempted to think of the resurrection simply as a display of God's power, proof that Jesus is in fact the Son of God come to rescue the world from sin, death, and the devil. But the resurrection is far more than a significant event that we look back to. Paul writes about Jesus in Romans 6:4, "We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life."

You see, Jesus' resurrection has implications for our whole lives right now. Our engagement with our families, our bodies, and our work are all renewed through the resurrection. On Easter Sunday we'll begin a series on this resurrection life by exploring the implications of the empty tomb on how we pursue justice. I hope you'll invite a friend and join us for this service of celebration.

Community Prayer Requests

1) Jackie Robinson: The principal resigned last week in order to spend time with her family out of state. Please pray for a smooth transition and favor with the new administration.

2) New Community Outreach (NCO) Summer Programming: We hope to include 5-10 of the students we're connected with at Dyett High School in our pilot summer mentoring and skill-building program.

3) Peace: With the warmer weather we've already seen some increased violence. Let's pray for peace in our communities and for the courage to be peacemakers this summer.
