A Glimpse of the Kingdom

Saturday was a good day. I watched you get to Jackie Robinson early, when most of the neighborhood was still walking up. You set-up tents, tables, and bouncy houses. I saw you greet our neighbors warmly, welcoming them to the back-to-school fair and making sure they knew where everything was. You bent down to look the kids in their eyes as they told you what glitter tattoo they wanted or what game they wanted to try next. I watched you stand in the sun for hours, smiling as children with endless energy hopped out of the obstacle course and ran back to the entrance for another go. You stood behind smoky grills, laying out burgers and dogs, chips and oranges, making sure everyone got enough. You stayed behind when our guests went home, picking up trash, wiping down tables, and making sure we left the place better than we found it.

Thank you. What I saw on Saturday was a glimpse of God's good kingdom.
As we head toward the fall our Community Group Bible Studies and Thursday Night Bible Study will all be starting back up. Be sure to sign-up on Sunday if you're not already connected with one of these.

Another way to support the ministry is to join a ministry team. Right now our Hospitality, Set-up, and Kids City teams are all recruiting new team members. Sign-up on Sunday to join any of these teams.

On Saturday there will be a women's gathering at 7:00PM. Email Pastor Michelle for more info and directions.

Lastly, be sure to mark your calendar for the Eco House Ice Cream Social coming up next week. More info below.

PS On Saturday night my friend Minister Terrell Wheat had me on his Facebook live for a conversation about the intersection of worship and justice. Too often we miss this connection and I was glad for the chance to dig into it together.

Community Prayer Requests (New School Year Edition)

1) Teachers and Students: A new school year has arrived! Please pray for all of our students and teachers as they head back to the classroom. Pray especially that our teachers would have all of the support they need to do their jobs well.

2) Principal Search at Dyett High School: Please continue praying for Dyett High School as they search for a new Principal. Pray also that the new Principal is open to continued partnership with NCO.

3) Jackie Robinson: Principal Ellis is beginning her first school year at Robinson. Please pray that she could transition smoothly and continue the good momentum from previous administrations.
Your generosity helps our ministry flourish. Please see this fact sheet to learn more about how to give or visit our website to give online. Thank you!
