Learning to Pray

During our ministry staff meeting this week Won Kim led us in a conversation about prayer and Scripture. He reminded us that praying and reading the Bible are not completely separate things. Scripture reading is a way we listen to God and prayer is a way we speak, in response to listening, to God.

Given that one of our priorities in 2020 is growing in prayer, it was a great way for our team to begin the year. Prayer is not something we ever master. There are no prayer experts. We are, all of us, learning to listen to God and to respond faithfully no matter the changing nature of our circumstances.

Throughout the year there will be different opportunities to grow in our lives of prayer. The first one of these will be during our worship service on February 2nd. A few of our leaders are planning an interactive service where we'll have opportunities to pray in different ways. Our children will be included in the service. I think it will be a great way to set the pace for the rest of the year.

PS A couple of weeks ago I linked to a life mapping tool that Valeri Chow Tao had mentioned in her sermon. The link was broken; here's the right one if you're interested.

Community Prayer Requests

1) After suffering from a hurricane, Puerto Rico is now experiencing regular earthquakes. Pray that the earthquakes would stop and that the island would get the attention and aid it needs from our federal government.

2) There are many in our church who are praying that certain friends and family members would place their faith and allegiance in Jesus. Let's pray for one another as well, that we would not give up on anyone God has placed in our lives.

3) This fall and winter have seen a lot of sickness in our church and city. Please pray for healing and good health for those who have been sick.
