Responding to the God of Justice

We're waking up to a grieving city. There has been protest, unrest, and violence. In addition to the demonstrations happening around the country, this weekend saw 16 people shot and killed another 30 injured by gun violence in Chicago.

There will be a lot to do in the days ahead. Many of us will partner with people of good will to advocate and agitate for justice. As Christians though, our response is not primarily to injustice itself, but to the God who is the very definition of justice. Our response, then, is always characterized by prayer.

This is why, in addition to the other ways each of us is showing up to our grieving city, on Tuesday at 6:00 PM we will join faith communities from around the area for a demonstration here in Bronzeville.

Our friends at Bright Star have done an excellent job organizing the demonstration. Please visit the website for directions and instructions about social distancing.

Not everyone will be able to join this demonstration, but we can each make prayer the center of our response to our shared lament over injustice. For those who plan on attending, please connect with your Community Group or Bible Study to coordinate who you can walk with.

With love,

Pastor David

PS If you need any kind of help, please reach out to the church. We're here for each other!
