Franklin Airport Renamed

Franklin Municipal Airport has officially been renamed Franklin Regional Airport. The name change was recommended by the Airport Advisory Board and approved by Franklin City Council in 2019. The request had been under review by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the Virginia Department of Aviation and was officially approved last month.

Franklin Regional Airport is located in Isle of Wight County and is owned and operated by the City of Franklin. It is a general aviation commercial airport catering primarily to private, military and corporate aircraft and serves Franklin, Isle of Wight and Southampton Counties. MORE

Innovative Scheduling Program for Career Academy Students

In January, the Isle of Wight School Board approved the creation of a forward-thinking, year-long schedule that allows students to spend one whole week in their Career and Technical Education (CTE) Career Academy course, alternating with one week of core classes.  This pilot program will begin with the 2020-2021 school year.  Career Academy Programs include: Agriculture, Building Trades, Cosmetology, Culinary Arts, Nurse Aid and Welding.

As part of the schools’ redesign of the CTE program, an emphasis has been placed on developing high-quality internships and apprenticeships with area business partners. Businesses have been fully supportive of this initiative, indicating that the traditional high school schedule was not conducive to authentic, longitudinal, work-based experiences.

If your business is interested in partnering with Isle of Wight County Schools to offer internships and/or apprenticeships, please email Jeff Mordica or call 757-365-1635. MORE

Featured Available Property

FOR SALE - COMMERCIAL BUILDING
11535 SMITH'S NECK ROAD, CARROLLTON

Bring your ideas and your business to this commercial property on a busy road with great visibility. This 1.26 acre property includes two buildings. First is a former, partially-renovated convenience store that has a sign pole and lots of parking. The second is a two-bedroom one-bath, single-family home that is rented for additional income to supplement your business. Both located at the entrance of the Jones Creek Landing public boat ramp, which provides plenty of drive-by traffic. Would be a great place for a bait shop or boating accessory retail. Plenty of potential for someone with vision and a small business plan. MORE
