The search continues... and a
Building Design Committee is formed
In anticipation of possible relocation, School Meeting's Property Search Committee has continued an intensive search of real estate within about two miles of the current location. A few weeks ago, the committee, chaired by staff member JD Stillwater, submitted to School Meeting a report featuring nine potential campus sites. Field trips including students Sol and Elijah have been made to two of the sites.
Here's what they're looking for:
-
located within about two miles of 210 Oakleigh Ave (to preserve busing from as many districts as possible)
-
at least five acres of land
-
a code-ready building of at least 7,000 square feet, or no buildings on-site (most residential structures will add significant cost to the purchase, but will cost more than new construction to bring up to code)
In the meantime, a Building Design Committee of nine students and staff has been formed to make recommendations for the design of a new building.
Seem a little crazy to start designing a building when we don't know when (or even if) we'll find a campus? We're hoping if we can find a suitable site, with the help of friends of the school, we might be able to move in the fall of 2014, so we're doing as much internal work to prepare as possible.
Stay tuned, and let us know if you'd like to get involved!
