Snapper Announced as Partner in Breakthrough Industry Collaboration
Today Snapper announced its new partnership agreement with Semble, New Zealand’s mobile wallet, that will allow Snapper customers to use their smartphone to pay for all Snapper transactions such as catching a bus, paying for a taxi, paying for parking or buying a coffee.
Snapper CEO Miki Szikszai says “We are delighted to be announcing today that we are joining Semble as their first public transport partner, and are proud to support Semble as they deliver on their vision of a customer focused mobile payments platform for all of NZ.”
Snapper has long held the view that mobile is the preferred device for personal computing. As such we have consistently made business decisions to align with mobile technology, making it easy for our customers to take advantage of the power of their smartphone.
This mobile-first mentality has paid off for Snapper. Back in 2012 we received global recognition for launching a commercial mobile payments service in NZ that let 2degrees customers use their phones to pay for public transport, retail, taxis and parking, anywhere Snapper transactions were accepted. This was not only a first for NZ, but world leading outside of Korea and Japan.
It is a natural progression that Snapper should now partner with Semble, who have also created a breakthrough industry collaboration that is unique on a global scale. Semble brings together mobile network operators (2degrees, Spark and Vodafone) with banking partners (ASB and BNZ) and payments network Paymark, to offer the first integrated mobile wallet to New Zealanders.
By extending the network from solely 2degrees customers to all mobile network operators in New Zealand, it provides Snapper with the ability to make every day easier for tens of thousands of Vodafone and Spark customers who would like to use their smartphone to pay for public transport, simply by touching their phone to the Snapper reader.
“Our view is that Semble is the natural partner for us to work with. Semble provides distribution to the widest range of customers for secure, instant mobile payments. We are looking forward to launching in June, where Semble customers will be able to download a Snapper payment card into their Snapper wallet and use it throughout the Snapper network.” says Szikszai.
About Snapper Services Ltd
Snapper Services Ltd was formed in 2006 as a wholly owned subsidiary of Infratil Ltd with a goal to provide a public transport ticketing scheme for the New Zealand market. Since launching in 2008, we have expanded to become more than just a ticketing scheme, offering customers a seamless journey through integrations with third party suppliers including Eftpos, Taxi Charge, Wellington City Council for on-street parking and Wellington Cable Car Company.
In 2012, Snapper’s integration with the Mobile Network Operator 2degrees led to global recognition for our transport ticketing mobile solution. Since then, we have developed a range of bolt-on technology solutions targeted at Transport Operators and Authorities operating smartcard ticketing schemes. We take our proven technology and offer it as a white-label product so Transport Operators and Authorities can leverage the investment they have already made in their existing smartcard branding.
In 2014, Snapper partnered with Vix Technology to win the contract to provide a Mobile Reload solution for the National Transport Authority of Ireland. In recognition of this solution, we received the Ticketing Technology of the Year award at the 2015 Transport Ticketing Global Conference, further validating our reputation as leaders in smartphone ticketing innovation.
