Rachel Zinman Yoga
What about those thoughts?

I just realised that my thoughts are like a home built entertainment system. From my nightly dreams to the unending barage of memories and emotions, not to mention the snippets of songs and half finished ideas, my entertainment system has it all and I can choose to turn up the volume or put the whole thing on mute. The pictures keep going of course, but I can always go for a walk instead of watching the nightly news. So much of our focus in Yoga is around thoughts and how to calm them, tame them, wrestle with them, discipline them and what ever else we think we should do with them. But what if like a 24 hr drive in, the movies of the thoughts keep playing no matter what we do?

In my own practice I have discovered the beauty of thinking. Different to ambling through random thoughts I have discovered more about the THINKER and how the mind works and how to engage with the thinking process. Part of this journey has included reconnecting with my favourite Deity Ganesha. I had always thought of Ganesha as the remover of obstacles, yet on reflection there is much more to Ganesha than meets the eye. Ganesha has so many roles and functions just like we do and its been exciting to dive into his belly and share the significance of these qualities in a workshop format.

Pure Ganesha on Tour
I have been on tour now for a month in Europe visiting cities like Nuremburg, Merano, Italy, Liechtenstein and Bern and with two more months to go there are plenty of opportunities to join me and deepen your practice. Besides my usual  events at Air Yoga I will be in Stuttgart, Geneva, Lindau, Dusseldorf, Hamburg, Aschaffenburg, Weisbaden and Thun. A Big "Thank You" to my european manager Clemens Frede from Shri Connection for helping me to share my passion for Yoga.

Joining me on tour this year is South African Yoga teacher John Weddepohl. We have been teaching together since January and will be offering masterclasses, workshop and kirtan's both together and separately while we are here. John's passion is the combination of Self Knowledge ( Gnana yoga) and Hatha yoga having studied both intensively for many years. He has developed a daily home practice which builds immunity, balances your constitution and can be adapted to your individual needs and time constraints. He will be sharing a workshop " Yoga for Daily life" in Munich at The Ishta Yoga Studio May 15 &16 and in Liechtenstein on June 22-24. Don't miss the opportunity to get into a great home practice! We will also be offering a combined evening Masterclass in Geneva May 30.

While we were in India we created a simple DVD of John's home practice sequence with the help of multitalented Nora Wendel.
Click here to view a trailer of John's sequence. Nora has also been working with us to create some beautiful flyers  for our workshops and retreats. To find out more about John check out his FB pages Urb@n Vedanta and Urb@n Yogi, follow his Blog or visit his Website

In the NEWS

there's been a bit of a buzz lately about my passion for Yantra's and this month I was featured in german Yoga Magazine YOGA AKTUEL and well as having an article published about my Journey through Yantras on the website genieinabody. It's been so wonderful to see the beauty of Yantra's inspiring so many people as I continue to work with them as part of my home practice.

Places are filling fast so if you would like to come don't hesitate to visit our Retreat Page and contact me for more information.

Music Music Music

Kirtan and chanting are my favourite ways of expressing devotion and it's been a beautiful year for making and playing music. It was a blast for John and I to be part of the Brahmani Bhajan Band in Goa and to sing and play with Julie Martin and Paco from Kundalini airport and then to join Punnu Wasu as part of the Bali Spirit Festival musical events. The highlight for me was to share a Sita Ram chant composed by John and myself as part of the closing Global Mala project at the festival.

All throughout the tour here in Europe we will be offering Kirtans and it would be lovely to see you there. If there isn't a Kirtan in your area do visit the music page on my website where you can download tracks or buy any of our three CD's.
