Town of Cochrane Signs On  
As Sustainability Champion  

On October 12, the Cochrane Sustainability Plan welcomed The Town of Cochrane as its newest Champion.  Town Councillors and the Mayor were on hand for the signing, reinforcing the Town’s commitment to achieving the Plan’s targets.

The SPUR Bull Pen:  Sustainability Funding, Dragon’s Den Style Nov. 19
On November 19, Cochrane organizations, businesses and individuals with great sustainability ideas will have a chance to win $15,000 in funding.  Modeled after CBC’s Dragon’s Den, the competition will see applicants pitching their sustainability ideas to a team of judges. Pathway 9 in Profile:  Housing for Everyone
Pathway 9 in the Cochrane Sustainability Plan is all about ensuring safe, affordable and accessible housing for Cochrane residents.  The Cochrane Society for Housing Options is one local group that’s making a real difference in achieving Pathway 9 targets.  Read more.



 
Sustainability Champions:  The Healthy Hut  
One of the newest Champions of Sustainability is committed to improving the health of all Cochrane residents.  At their 2 Ave West location, The Healthy Hut offers vitamins, supplements, holistic services and health information, all with an eye to enhancing health and wellness.  Their commitment to sustainability is an important part of their product line and services.  Read more.

In Our Community: Home Reno Heaven
Pathway 9 is all about making sure Cochrane residents have access to housing – and one local resource is making a real difference achieving these sustainability targets. Home Reno Heaven provides recycling opportunities for home renovation products and appliances that still have a useful service life.  At the same time, their work generates revenue for self-sustaining affordable housing programs.  Learn more about their efforts here.




Champions in Training  
On Mon., Nov. 15, the CSP’s current Champions as well as several upcoming Champions are being invited to attend a training session from 4 to 5:30 p.m..  This event has been designed to help them further their sustainability initiatives, and to have the opportunity to connect with other Champions.  Interested in learning more, or becoming a Sustainability Champion yourself?  Email champions@cochranesustainability.ca, or click here.



Cochrane Votes 2010
The 2010 Municipal Election is now complete, and Town of Cochrane residents have had their say.  For more on the election results, click here.  This year's voter turnout was 39 per cent, which is on track with previous years, but short of the CSP target of 50 per cent voter turnout by 2013.
