From the Rector

Dear Friends,

I hope this message finds you well. With my schedule in the last two months, sitting down to click away for a newsletter has been a bit more difficult than it usually is, so I hope you’ll forgive that I skipped a month.

My favourite work is of course face to face with our local community but my responsibility extends to the entire Church and as you’ll recall from my January newsletter, we’ve got some significant happenings coming up- namely Conclave 2019, May 16th to 21st in Montreal, Quebec, and this has occupied a fair bit of time in preparation.

From our
Conclave website:

“Each year the people of the AJC, friends and family gather together to socialize, learn, build our skills and deepen our community. It is an amazing opportunity for spiritual growth and insight to modern Gnostic practice. Conclave offers lectures, workshops and panel discussions selected to develop ministry skills, support the work of church leaders both lay and ordained and deepen and enrich the spiritual lives of attendees.

Conclave is also rich in social time, time to eat, talk, pray and practice together. It’s like a retreat and a conference all rolled into one.”

The theme for this year's Conclave is the Divine Feminine and each year, we try to bring you a series of engaging speakers and workshops. Typically, we lead with a notable non-Church speaker or academic who has something insightful, relevant, impactful or transformative to our small but global Church. This year, we’re excited to present a whole handful of these speakers:

Dr. Celine Lillie with a talk on The Thunder: Perfect Mind
Dr. David Goodwin on The Divine Feminine in the Gospel of John
Dr. Andre Gagne on How to Interpret the Gospel of Thomas
Risa Dickens and Amy Torok
with Missing Witches
Nicholas Laccetti with Amor vs. Roma: Joséphin Péladan on the Secret Tradition from the Cathars and the Troubadours to Dante
T. Scarlet Jory
with Sophia: Gnostic Goddess, Lunar Goddess, Goddess of Wisdom

And of course- your favourite AJC Clergy and teachers-

The Sacrament of Matrimony with the Primate of the United States, Mar Thomas
The Great Lady in Temple Theology
with the Bishop of New South Wales, Mar Timotheos
Divine Feminine in Secret John
with the Very Rev. Tony Silvia
Marian Gnosticism with Fr. Joseph McCauslin
The Gospel of Mary
 with Clark Aitkins

As is our custom, we record many of our talks and make them freely available on our Podcast- The Lectern and our Youtube Channel- and many of these will be made available as the year progresses. We're still putting out talks from last year's fantastic gathering in Portland, Oregon!

This Month at St. Joseph's

Before Conclave gets underway, we'll be meeting locally to commemorate St. Julian of Norwich with the Contemplative Eucharist of the Apostolic Johannite Church on May 8th at 7:30pm. Later on in the month, on May 22nd, we will be sitting down to break bread at Boston Pizza at North Hill, for some discussion and food.

I hope to see you there.

Ad Sacram Flammam,
+ Shaun Mar Iohannes
