The Curtis National Hand Center welcomes Dr. Ryan Katz, hand surgery/plastic surgery
New office location in Perry Hall!!

Dr. Katz fellowship trained in hand surgery at the Curtis National Hand Center at Union Memorial Hospital.  He also completed training in plastic and reconstructive surgery at The Johns Hopkins Hospital.  Dr. Katz has special interests in Microsurgery, Complex soft tissue and bone reconstruction, Nerve and vascular disorders, Fractures of the upper extremity, Nerve compression, and Limb Salvage.

Meet Douglas Shepard, M.D.

Douglas M. Shepard, M.D., is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon at Harbor Hospital, offering leading-edge surgical and non-surgical treatment for conditions of the wrist, ankle, shoulder, knee and neck. A graduate of Johns Hopkins University, Dr. Shepard earned his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. He went on to complete a surgical internship and residency at Yale New Haven Hospital in New Haven, Conn. He also completed surgical and orthopedic surgical residencies, as well as fellowship in reconstruction of the upper extremity and hand surgery at Baylor College of Medicine. Dr. Shepard is a member of the Med-Chi Faculty of Maryland, the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the Peruvian Orthopedic and Traumatology Society, the Maryland Orthopedic Society and the Baltimore County Medical Association. Dr. Shepard is dedicated to personalized medicine, making extra time for his patients as needed and personally managing every one of his patients' orthopedic experiences. Se habla español.

NRH Regional Rehab at Wheaton offers both physical and occupational therapy services.  Our experienced therapists, with over twenty years of experience, are highly skilled in manual therapy and take a hands-on approach in setting individual goals for every client.  We strive to provide the best quality of care, rapid access and excellent customer service so we can achieve the best outcomes for our clients for their rapid return to work.
The hand therapy services at Wheaton are specially designed
for clients with:
  •     carpal tunnel syndrome and other nerve compression disorders
  •     trauma to the hand, including lacerations, crush injuries and fractures
  •     cumulative trauma and overuse disorders including tendonitis
  •     post-operative reconstructive procedures
  •     repetitive motion disorders in the upper extremities
Our hand therapists can provide splint fabrication, intervention for pain management, retraining in daily living skills, sensory re-education following nerve trauma and work simulation activities to increase work conditioning and tolerance for improved ability to return to work.

The physical therapy services offered at Wheaton include general orthopedics, spine services, foot and ankle services and other specialty programs.  The therapists work as a team, sharing information and always striving for optimal outcomes.

Shows Holiday Spirit!

 
 NRH Regional Rehab Pasadena: Team Coldpack

Team members from National Rehabilitation Hospital Regional Rehab at Pasadena joined together early Sunday, November 14th, at Marley Station mall to support the Arthritis Foundation by participating in the annual Jingle Bell Walk/Run . NRH had the second largest team, Cold Pack, participating in the event with 16 members including children, teens, and adults.  Team Cold Pack raised over $600 to help support the foundation’s efforts to fight arthritis and fund research.  Members participated in the 5K, created team shirts, and manned a table to educate the community about the available therapy services at NRH Regional Rehab at Pasadena. These services include physical therapy and occupational therapy including certified hand therapists (CHT).  Both disciplines work with patients who have a variety of arthritic conditions. Team Cold Pack members enjoyed the festive event with jingle bells laced to their shoes, jingling their way for a worthy cause. 

Our hand therapists provide specialized hand and upper extremity therapy services for patients following traumatic injury, overuse syndromes, and joint replacements. NRH Appoints New Senior Vice President and Medical Director

NRH announces the appointment of Michael Yochelson, MD, to serve as our next Senior Vice President and Medical Director at NRH beginning July 1, 2011.  Dr. Yochelson has been with NRH since 2006 and most recently served as Associate Medical Director, Neurological Programs and Program Director of our Brain Injury Program.  Dr. Yochelson is both a board-certified physiatrist and neurologist, and will also add to his resume an MBA from the University of Maryland in July of this year.  He has broad clinical experience from both the military and civilian environments, has provided steady leadership for our neurological programs, and has been a welcome addition to the executive team at NRH.
