Robert Bryan Mason, MD, is a board-certified neurosurgeon who performs surgery at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital and MedStar Washington Hospital CenterDr. Mason also offers a full day clinic on Fridays in Clinton, MD.

As a member of the MedStar neurosurgery team, Dr. Mason performs brain and spinal surgeries on patients of all ages, but primarily adults.


Dr. Mason is a navy veteran who flew F-14s and served as a flight instructor before pursuing a medical career. Working with the intricacies of the brain and spine drew him to his specialty, and the opportunity to perform surgery on a wide variety of cases led him to MedStar Georgetown.

MedStar NRH Driver Training Program

The MedStar National Rehabilitation Network's Driver Training Program specializes in training drivers with mobility, cognitive, or visual impairments to drive safely, using adaptive equipment or other adaptive strategies. As the only fully accessible driving program in the metropolitan Washington area, we have trained hundreds of people in alternate methods of safe driving. Many of our clients come for training following a stroke, spinal cord injury, amputation, arthritis, brain injury, cerebral palsy, MS, or issues related to aging.

Stepping Up to Shoulder Pain

Every year, thousands of people of every age and description seek help for persistent shoulder pain. “Young, middle aged and older men and women—we see them all looking for respite from discomfort that makes it difficult to function day-to-day,” says Brent Wiesel, MD, chief of the shoulder services at MedStar Orthopaedic Institute at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital.
The shoulder is one of the most complex joints in the body—a ball and socket of bone cushioned and stabilized by a group of muscles, tendons and cartilage.  Any of these can be damaged—and the bone itself can wear away.
