Supporting people living with cancer since 1993

December 2021 Newsletter

      Reflections on 2021

      Plans for 2022

      Life Force 2021 Christmas Appeal

Dear Friends,
It’s nearly the end of the year, time to send warmest wishes for the festive season to everyone and best wishes for health and happiness in the year ahead.

It’s also time to say thank you to all our wonderful supporters and friends who have kept Life Force going strongly for over 25 years now. It is your generous donations and contributions that have made it possible to continue our vitally important support programs and services.

With your support we have been able to bring comfort hope and healing to the many people living with cancer who have come to us for help when their world has been turned upside down.

It is also time to say thank you to our wonderful patrons, Gabi Hollows and Prof. Michael Friedlander and our Life Force Board members, who share and support our vision and mission, and to our marvellous willing and enthusiastic volunteers. Our thanks also to our dedicated, caring and compassionate team of counsellors and therapists who haven’t missed a beat right through 2021.

As the year draws to a close, we reflect on what we have achieved in 2021, and look ahead at our plans for 2022.

Reflections on the year just ending

At Life Force, we are proud of the support and engagement we have been able to provide, especially during the uncertain times in which we have all been living.

Although 2021 has been a challenging year for us all, the Life Force team has shown adaptability and resilience as we continued to support people facing ongoing vulnerability. Empathy and kindness have been enduring themes.

The importance of creating a safe space for connection, understanding, empowerment, hope and healing to support each other through difficult times has been realised as always.

Connection has been vitally important in our new socially distanced lives, and Life Force has continued to provide this via our weekly online Zoom sessions. These online support group sessions have been especially important for people living in regional areas and other states, such as South Australia and Queensland and for those with impaired mobility. There was even someone joining the carers and bereavement group from as far away as France!
Great work from our wonderful counselling team

The regional team also managed to conduct a very beautiful and successful face to face retreat for 12 cancer survivors held in Dubbo NSW in May, just before restrictions were introduced making it impossible to hold any further face to face meetings in the regions during the rest of the year. Hoping to pick up again in 2022.

Life Force “Be an Angel” 2021 Christmas Appeal

Prof. Liz Harry’s story is one of despair, surviving, loving memories and learning to live life to the full.
She reminds us that it is possible to find hope in despair and learn to make the most of the lives that we share.
We hope that you will realize the great impact that Life Force has on those that we strive to help and support - and make a contribution to propel us into 2022.

Lizzie's story.....
“I discovered LFCF when my partner and I were dealing with his metastatic colon cancer. He was in hospital, not doing well, and I felt absolute despair. LFCF provided a sanctuary for me to share what I knew others were feeling, in a calm, loving environment. I was part of both support groups; first for me with breast cancer and then as carer for my partner very soon after with colon cancer. I survived, he didn’t. I owe many sweet memories and the gaining of wisdom through LFCF’s beautiful leaders and support group members. This foundation enabled me to laugh, cry and to learn to live my life to the full; healthy and with courage.”

Please support our Christmas Appeal. Gift Life Force this Christmas to bring love, healing and hope to all people living with cancer.
