It's been a busy summer at Greg Horne Industries. If it sounds like all I do is work my ass off and do cool stuff with my awesome ass-working-off friends, well that's about the size of it. These may be frugal times, but life and music are full!

Since the last newsletter, I've played a bunch of shows with my friends RB Morris, Wild Ponies, Jay Clark, the Bearded, and my own Greg Horne Band. While at home I've worked on a couple of exciting projects for Alfred Publishing and have been making progress on a new full band Greg Horne album.

We started recording this summer at the new Knoxville location of Top Hat Recording, an awesome team from Austin made up of John Harvey and Mary Podio. I can't wait for you to hear this stuff but we have a bit further to go before it's ready. Soon I'll be sending out announcements about how you can (please, oh please) help us by pre-ordering. I may have some other stuff from my musical past to help sweeten the deal...

A couple of other highlights of the summer included a little run to the mountains of Virginia, West Virginia and Maryland with WIld Ponies. It's a blast to get to play with them when I can (I even bring a long my rarely seen lap steel). They are out on the road a lot and have a great record, so check them out when you can.

Knoxville's native Bard-in-Residence R.B. Morris has been ramping up his activity lately. We did a show together earlier in the summer opening up for the master Dave Olney's album release show. For this show I got to play guitar with the lineup of RB's classic band of Nashville heavies, Dave Jacques, Paul Griffith, and Eric Fritsch. We'll reprise that band at a special Happy Hour show next week at the Stone Fox. As you can see, the audience was eager to document the occasion.

Here in Knoxville, I was lucky to be part of a team including my pals Tim and Susan Lee, and Christina Horn of Hudson K, who put together a four-day festival of music at our favorite little rock club, the Pilot Light. The Innaugural Hungry Otter Fest was a smash hit and all of the bands were great. Check out our Hungry Otter facebook page or twitter @hungryotterfest for pics and to see who played. Here's the Greg Horne Band, dwarfed by our bassist Chris Zuhr.

Before the festival, all of us went out to Tucson, AZ for the Potluck Audio Conference, then stayed a few extra days to help out the Tim Lee 3 on their next album. The recording sessions were at Wavelab Studios, a great room that has hosted sessions with Calexico, Neko Case, and many other artists. Here's me and Tim strumming in breathtaking stereo.

Paige and Christina and I took a side trip to the Biosphere 2 to fulfill our science requirement.

This fall I've got a bunch of shows coming up around the South, starting with a solo/duo show with my rhythm section partner in crime, Daniel Kimbro. Daniel and I have been backing up other folks together for a long while. Recently he's become the regular bass player in dobro legend Jerry Douglas' Band! So catch us before he blasts off into the stratosphere.

Stay tuned for more, and thanks for your support!
