News about Workshops and Events

We've got a range of workshops and events planned for the next couple of months.

A number of you told us that you wanted more support on the financial implications of setting up services, so we've organised a couple of sessions with WYCAS in February. The first session on 2nd February, looks at financial best practice, whilst the second session on 15th February looks at how to set prices for personalisation.

Our Creative Support Planning workshop was really well received last year, so we have decided to run that again on 8th February. And for people who are keen to get stuck into setting up services, we've got an intensive 6 week DIY Business Planning course starting on 31st January.

And don't forget we are also happy to meet on a one-to-one basis with anyone who wants to develop ideas further, so don't hesitate to get in touch with us.

Workshops and Events

DIY Business Planning Sessions
Monday 31st January 2011 - 14th March 2011

We are offering third sector organisations in Bradford the opportunity to come to a series of free social business planning workshops to help to develop ideas for services for people with Individual Accounts.

Each workshop will cover a key topic which you are likely to need to consider when you develop a service as a social enterprise. We hope that by coming to the six sessions, and by doing the work we encourage you to do between the sessions, you will make real progress in developing your idea.

Personalisation - Financial Best Practice (WYCAS)
Wednesday 2nd February 2011

The workshop will explore some of the key financial issues that people need to consider when setting up services for people with Individual Accounts

The workshop will be practical and interactive, and will be of use to any third sector organisation in Bradford which is actively considering delivery of services to people through personalisation.

This workshop will be delivered by Elaine Carter-Walker from WYCAS.

Creative Support Planning Workshop
Thursday 8th February 2011

In this workshop we'll work together to consider some real, anonymised examples of people in Bradford who have been through the social care assessment process so that they could be offered an Individual Account.

We will consider the outcomes that they said they'd like to achieve (in terms of independence, social interaction etc) and we'll also see how much money they were allocated.  We'll then work in small groups to consider creative ways that they could achieve their outcomes, whilst staying within budget. We can then compare our ideas with what they actually received and discuss any issues that this raises.

Pricing and Personalisation (WYCAS)
Tuesday 15th February 2011

How will you decide what to charge people with an Individual Account for the services that you provide to them?

This workshop will be of interest to any third sector organisations in Bradford which are looking to develop services for people as part of the Personalisation Agenda. The workshop will be practical and interactive and will briefly cover an overview of the Individual Account process, how to decide what to charge for your service and whether your charge is something that customers will be happy to pay.

This workshop will be delivered by Elaine Carter-Walker from WYCAS.

DIY Social Impact Reporting
Tuesday 1st March 2011

This practical workshop will explore ways to keep track of, and then report on, the social impacts that you have through the work that you do.  We'll offer some thoughts and guidance, but equally the workshop will be about sharing what you've done - or seen others do - so that between us we can come up with some practical ways to report on social impacts.

By the end of the session we hope to have come up with some practical and do-able ways for you to start recording and reporting on the social impacts that your organisation has.

Who should come to this workshop?
People from organisations looking  to deliver services in Bradford in line with the Personalisation Agenda.

DIY Social Impact Reporting

We're planning an event on 1st March (details can be found in the Workshops and Events section to the left) exploring simple ways to do social impact reporting.  We want this to be a practical session and in particular want to hear from people who are already recording and reporting on the impacts they have.  If you have done some work in this area, and would be interested in running this session with us, please let us know.

Hold the date

We are planning a final event to round off the project on 22nd March.  We'll send out more details soon but please pencil the date into your diary.

Further Support

We are keen to do what we can to make sure that you are in touch with other available support, once our project ends at the end of March.  We're in touch with Enterprising Bradford, who have told us what support will be available from April.  If you think you'd like to continue to access support (particularly around setting up services) please contact us and we will do our best to put you in touch with organisations that are able to help.

BVCSPP Information Site
www.bvcspp.wikidot.com

Please visit the Bradford Voluntary and Community Sector Personalisation Project information site, where you will find useful information to help you and your organisations take advantage of the opportunities presented by personalisation.

As well as sharing information on Personalisation we have an Events section which includes event details, plus presentation and hand-outs from all of our previous events. We also have a section for our Working Groups where you can find updates and documentation from all of the sessions to date.  Our News and Support and Resources pages will help you to keep updated with what’s going on in personalisation across England and provide articles and documentation that can help you on your personalisation journey.  And check out our Useful Links and Contacts page for contacts details of organisations that offer support and advice.

Working Groups

Our working group meetings have been going really well and we have had some great sessions. We still have a few places available and it would be great to have more people involved. It doesn’t matter if you were unable to make the first sessions you can still take part. For working group updates and to find out what has been happening so far please visit www.bvcspp.wikidot.com/working-groups.

Working Group event dates can be seen in the Workshop and Events section to the left.

Being Socially Enterprising

Instead of the 'being socially enterprising' working group sessions we are offering extra workshops and a DIY Social Business Planning Course. Details of both can be found in the Workshops and Events section to the left.

What Is Personalisation?

Personalisation is a term used to describe the ability to tailor a range of support services to meet an individual’s specific needs. It is at the heart of the government’s drive to transform social care.

The Bradford approach to implementing personalisation is ‘your life your choice’. Based on self-directed assessment and support, it provides customers with individual accounts that they can spend on the services they require to provide them with the care they need.

For more information go to your life your choice.

Bradford Council is committed to doing what it can to stimulate a market for older people’s services in which VCS organisations can deliver services, alongside other providers.
