science made simple  Spring 2016
With half term behind us, National Science and Engineering week is just around the corner. Need inspiration? We've got it covered. We've also got some exciting announcements this term: the creation of 'space made simple', a new staff member and more!

We now have very limited availability during National Science and Engineering Week in March. Next term is filling up fast too, so be sure to reserve your date with us now without obligation.

Introducing... space made simple
space made simple began as a project in Wales in 2012 known as AstroCymru, to engage children in science and space. AstroCymru was a massive success and as a result has now joined forces with science made simple to inspire children nationwide.
Welcome Paul, Emma, Sophie, Matthew and Natasha! Find out more about our new range of 3D shows and space workshops here.
New staff member
We are delighted to welcome Rhys Griffiths as the newest science made simple presenter! We're very excited to have him on board.
"Hello I'm Rhys. I'm a media graduate who has been working as a science communicator for over 5 years at Techniquest in Cardiff Bay. I was 22 years old when I realised just how weird and wonderful the scientific world was (better late then never) and have loved the last few years as I have learnt something new every day.  I am an experienced planetarium presenter, I've visited hundreds of schools, I have my own podcast (Space Gravy) and I've even taken part in the BIG best demo contest back in 2012. I'm looking forward to joining the Science Made Simple team"
Bringing Science to life in Asia
On 1st March, Becca and Zoë are travelling across the globe to Hong Kong Science Festival, where the theme is 'Impossible to Possible'
They have developed a brand new biology show, 'Extraordinary Me', will be leading some soldering workshops, as well as performing at the opening ceremony.
Training in Malta
science made simple are working closely with Esplora, a brand new science centre in Malta. We've been busy developing new science shows for them.
James visited them in January to run their first training session, and David and Zoë have just returned after training the presenters on another two shows. They are doing brilliantly, and we can't wait to see the results when Esplora opens later this year.
Engineers Week Ireland
David, Leanne and our new presenter Rhys are currently in Ireland, touring our 'Who wants to be a Superhero?' and 'Engineering for Life: From Cradle to Grave' shows for Engineers Week Ireland. Leanne and David are presenting these show in venues across the country while Rhys has a chance to learn the ropes. Here's Rhys and Leanne taking a detour to check out the geology at the Giant's Causeway.
Well done to everyone who entered our Festive Science Decoration Competition, we loved seeing your creations! The winning entry was submitted by @BCSChemDept for their 'chemistree' complete with chemical reaction baubles!

Here's one of our trainees from Esplora Science Centre in Malta, trying out a demonstration that involves holding butane-filled soap bubbles in your hands and setting them on fire! Don't worry, we made sure our trainees knew exactly what they were doing and how to do it safely!

We've been working with the 'Education Begins at Home' campaign to make science accessible. Zoë's in the news presenting our 'Bubbles and Balloons' show to primary schools.
Success of new Milton Keynes office

Since opening our newest branch, Milton Keynes-based presenter Leanne has hit the ground running! She's been on the road constantly performing shows in the area. Here she is explaining combustion to a home educator audience. One parent commented:
"99 very happy children and lots of parents that now know something they didn't. Thank you"
