Making Mobility Great Again!

On Friday, February 10, NUTC Director Hani Mahmassani presented at the Workshop on Urban Mobility in the Era of Smart and Connected Communities, co-organized by the Chicago Department of Transportation, the Chicago Department of Innovation and Technology, and The Array of Things (AoT).

This workshop, organized by Chicago DOT and Dr. Dan Work of UIUC, is focused on new opportunities for linking growing data streams in the City of Chicago to critical challenges faced by those providing safe and efficient mobility services. Mahmassani’s presentation—Data. Changes. Everything: Making Mobility Great Again!—discussed ongoing work on data-driven predictive approaches to network management, and outlined major trends affecting the future of urban mobility. He suggested that major opportunity for Smart Cities and Connected vehicle systems lies in the facilitation of data sharing, access and transparency across apps. Mahmassani also emphasized the need for strong, visionary leadership and civic-minded entities for any cities in the vanguard of development.
