IHE International Board Announces Conformity Assessment Coordination Committee (CAsC)

The IHE International Board created the Conformity Assessment Coordination Committee (CAsC) in May 2014 to oversee development of international conformance testing programs based on ISO 17025 guidelines. The Committee has received support from a number of IHE Deployment Committees, who will be responsible for administering the programs, and is in the process of selecting a set of IHE profiles to include in initial testing. Establishment of the CAsC follows a successful two-year pilot program by IHE USA and ICSA Labs. The conformity assessment program will employ a level of testing process rigor that complements the testing results achieved at IHE Connectathons.

The CAsC Committee has responsibility for publishing and maintaining a document called the IHE Conformity Assessment Scheme (CAS) that will govern the international programs. The CAS consists of two volumes:
  • IHE CAS-1, published in June, defines the process for establishing and managing an IHE conformity assessment program and for accrediting and operating testing labs.
  • IHE CAS-2, currently under development, will define standardized test methods for assessing conformity to individual IHE Profiles.
