My First GDMLI Work Day

This year I was selected to participate in the Greater Des Moines Leadership Institute‘s (GDMLI) Community Leadership Program (CLP). This is a HUGE honor. CLP is Central Iowa’s premier and longest standing leadership program.

For our class project, we are working with Amanda the Panda to renovate their newly-purchased grief center in order to help the organization reach more hurting children and families. The new facility will double Amanda the Panda’s current space to allow for program expansion, provide a fenced outdoor space for activities and create increased community awareness.

We had a small work crew on Saturday, January 26th, as Project Panda continued its forward momentum from the previous work weekend.

A Social Media Marketing Plan Geared Towards Small Businesses

Small businesses continue to be the focus of the social media services I offer because I feel that they have the most to gain from correctly learning how to leverage these tools. Hands on With Facebook Graph Search – Here's What You Should Know

Facebook Graph Search is a search engine being rolled out by Facebook. It was developed by former Google employees and it is designed to give answers to user natural language queries rather than a list of links. The Graph Search alcorithm finds information from within a user's network of friends. Additional results will be provided by Microsoft's search engine, Bing.

What does this mean for you and your business's Facebook Fan Page? Nothing you didn't already know:

  • Completely fill out “About” information, especially physical address & category. If category is left blank, Facebook will assign one for you. The more information that you provide Facebook, the better!
  • Use more photos! Only directly shared photos and videos will show in photo and video searches.
  • Continue to build the community. Strive to build an actionable Fan base and create engagement. Engagement creates stories, and stories create connections.
  • Strive to create strong connections between users. A connection is created when a user engages with a content piece. Think of ways to encourage sharing within your community.
