Good Evening Alex
I wanted to update you on all that we’re doing here at Westminster City Council in relation to COVID-19, and what you can do to support your community, your business and yourself from the impact of the virus.
It’s in moments like these that it’s vital we come together to support each other. That’s the way we can keep Westminster running.
The coronavirus outbreak is of deep concern to everyone in Westminster. We are working hard with our partners and the local community to coordinate the response. We have contingency plans in place to keep essential services running – that means looking after the elderly, the vulnerable, children, as well as delivering our crucial maintenance services such as waste collection.
What you can do now
The decisions you make now have a direct impact on the health of our whole community. Please take the advice on non-essential contact and hygiene seriously and act now.
The most current public health information is available at nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/.
- Stop non-essential social contact and all unnecessary travel,
- Work from home and avoid pubs, clubs and other venues,
- Wash your hands with soap and water often – do this for at least 20 seconds,
- If anyone in your household experiences a persistent new cough or temperature then stay at home for 14 days.
If you are concerned then contact the NHS 111 online www.111.nhs.uk/covid-19
Helping in your community
It’s crucial that in times like this everyone pulls together – as a community, as councils working together, and with business and our other partners. Please take a moment to consider the most vulnerable in our community, and how you can help.
If you need help or you know of anyone who needs help please email: firstname.lastname@example.org
We’ve had many enquiries from local people and groups asking how they can help. We are really grateful for the amazing community spirit and would ask any individual who would like to volunteer to register their interest here.
If you are already involved in a local volunteering group, please send us through your details to email@example.com so that we can help publicise your activity to those who need it.
What we're focusing on
We are working closely with central government and the health service to cope with whatever contingency plans are needed to keep our essential services running and support vulnerable communities. I have written to the Chancellor asking him to provide further financial relief for our businesses and I welcome the additional measures announced today. The reality of coronavirus is changing daily and we will take our guide from health experts. Live updates are available on our website at westminster.gov.uk/coronavirus-advice-and-information.
I know some of you are feeling fearful and uncertain about the situation. Please know that we will be doing everything in our powers to ensure that we get through this situation and continue to invest in our world leading city.
Cllr Rachael Robathan
Leader, Westminster City council
