P.S. Positive Story...

In light of October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Ascension Genesys Health Club would like to acknowledge the accomplishment of one of our long time members… Jim Grubba.

On November 5th, 2001, Sandy and Jim Grubba lost their eldest daughter Kim to a six year battle against metastatic breast cancer. Understandably, it took a long time before the Grubba’s could talk about Kim's ordeal and her courage. During that time, they participated in several different events (such as "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer" and "Relay For Life" - both of which are worthy fundraising programs) but the Grubba’s wanted to raise as much money as possible specifically for breast cancer research.

Fast forward to June of 2007 when the first annual Kim (Grubba) Farrell Memorial Golf Outing was held. The Grubba’s set a long-term goal for themselves to raise and donate $200,000 most of which would go to the Susan G. Komen - Rally For The Cure. Just last month, the Grubba’s held their final outing after fourteen successful years of planning and fundraising in Kim’s honor.

Jim is currently recovering from a double bypass heart procedure and hopes to come home soon. As soon as he is home and a few more checks clear, the Grubba’s will cut their final check for just over $18,000… albeit, a bit short of the entire target amount - the Grubba’s plan to make up the difference. Ascension Genesys Health Club would like to congratulate the Grubba’s on their accomplishment! To raise $200,000 is no small feat!

The Grubba’s want to THANK all of the local businesses who donated items such as dinners, gift certificates, etc. that made their outings so successful. In particular they'd like to wish a BIG THANKS to all of the club members who participated in ANY WAY to their quest.
