Rezzetano Powers Phoenix to Win at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park
May 19 2015

Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada – Kurt Rezzetano scored his first career Pirelli World Challenge win and the first victory of the 2015 season in World Challenge for Phoenix American Motorsports in the Saturday GTS race at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (formerly known as Mosport). Another strong performance on Sunday has Rezzetano leading the GTS point standings in his Calvert Dynamics and Phoenix Performance Ford Mustang Boss 302 entry.

Rezzetano made his move of the race early on Saturday, pouncing on an Aston Martin for the lead on the opening lap of the race, and managing the gap to take the win, also earning the Invisible Glass Clean Pass of the Race award.

“It was a really great race. It was a matter of me keeping my head down and keeping the gap. Really I was not managing anything. I was going ten-tenths the whole time to try to get away from them. All and all it was a great day,” said Rezzetano following his win.

Andrew Aquilante brought his No. 32 home in fourth position, while Preston Calvert retired with a mechanical issue on lap four.

Rezzetano nearly swept the weekend, failing only to find a way around Jack Baldwin during Sunday's race and finishing .396 seconds behind in the second position. Aquilante completed the top five in the second CTMP race, which went for 35 laps and included contact with one of the factory Kias in the opening stages of the race.

Calvert bounced back after a challenging weekend, finishing on the lead lap.

Two top fives put Aquilante third in points, trailing Rezzetano and fellow Mustang racer Dean Martin.

After a string of solid finishes in his debut GT Cup presented by Momo season, Calvert had a rough weekend in Canada in his No. 77 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup.

Coming into the race with a season-high finish of fourth, Calvert was looking to make his maiden trip to the podium. That would not happen, however, as the Porsche had an incident in race one, making hard contact with the outside tire wall in turn four.

The Phoenix crew had the car ready and waiting for Calvert on Sunday; with the No. 77 finishing seventh in the GT Cup field after a flat-tire on the last lap took away a top five finish as Calvert had worked his way into fifth in the closing stages of the race.

Heading to Elkhart Lake in just over a month's time, Calvert will be looking for some redemption in both GTS and GT Cup, and currently sits fifth in the GT Cup standings.

As Road America approaches, Rezzetano has an opportunity to put his stamp on the points lead. Similar to Canada, the track is a high-speed natural terrain road course with flowing corners and significant elevation change. The Road America event is scheduled from June 26-28.

Watch the GTS action from CTMP on CBS Sports Network, Wednesday, May 27 at 9pm eastern.
