Happy Holidays from BISim!
From all of us at BISim, we wish you a joyful holiday season.
This past year we’ve focused on helping make your work easier (especially during an already challenging year) by taking actions like waiving license restrictions on our products for remote training and delivering free weekly online VBS training webinars. We’ll continue these activities in 2021.
And, of course, with the official release of VBS4 this year, we’ve brought ease of use to the forefront by enabling customers to more rapidly build training missions and empowering users to update terrains without needing an expert. Our first update to VBS4 is already available for download now on the VBS License Manager — you can find out more by watching the replays of the VBS Tech Conference below.
Another highlight of 2020: We were honored to be recognized by the mil-sim industry with MS&T magazine’s Outstanding VR/AR/MR Application Award for our work on the British Army’s Virtual Reality in Land Training (VRLT) pilot. You can read below about our continuing support of the second phase of VRLT and other eXtended Reality innovations we’re developing with partners.
2021 is going to be an exciting year: we look forward to releasing new VBS Blue engine tech to deliver photo-realistic rendering at any altitude, and we’ll be announcing a brand-new collaborative VR capability in VBS4. We’re also excited about our World Server technology and its enterprise capability to store and serve high-fidelity terrain to multiple runtimes.
Happy Holidays from all of us!

British Army’s VRLT2 Puts VR for Large-Scale, Combined Arms Military Training to the Test
Bohemia Interactive Simulations is continuing to work with the British Army to help provide collective training using VR through Virtual Reality In-Land Training (VRLT), a pathfinder project for the Collective Training Transformation Programme (CTTP).
“VR is giving soldiers a more immersive simulation training experience,” says Rusty Orwin, BISim’s Head of Sales - UK and Ireland and a former British Army Infantry Major. “Soldiers in VR are more engaged, taking training seriously but also clearly enjoying it more too, and they are more focused during training, which should better prepare them for live training.”

BISim Among First Adopters Leveraging Varjo’s XR-3 for MR Flight Sim Demo
BISim is among the first to integrate Varjo’s new XR-3 headset into a mixed reality Apache helicopter simulator demo on display at its Orlando facility. BISim customers will soon be able to use the XR-3 out of the box with VBS Blue IG software for eXtended Reality (XR) training applications.
VBS Blue IG is BISim’s high-performance, CIGI-compliant, whole-earth image generator and can be used across individual part-task trainers, XR solutions and full-motion simulators with multiple synchronized displays. It supports a wide variety of cutting-edge VR headsets and devices out of the box.
On display now at BISim’s Orlando facility, the Apache simulator leverages the XR-3’s mixed reality masking to show integrators how more lightweight mixed reality simulators can be developed for flight training. Chroma Keying can be used as well or in conjunction with masking to enhance the mixed reality. The simulator also incorporates Bugeye Technologies’ RVCT, which can be hand-carried and set up in less than an hour, and uses SASim’s FLEX-air, a complete avionics, flight, and weapons simulation designed to work with VBS Blue IG in desktop, VR and MR solutions.
