Dear Burnaby Trans Mountain Expansion Project Intervenor:

The City of Burnaby has been engaging its citizens in a discussion about the proposed Kinder Morgan Trans Mountain Expansion Project and its potential impacts on the City. Burnaby is opposed to this project and has been accepted as an Intervenor in National Energy Board’s (NEB) Hearing Process.

The City has been asked by its citizens to provide assistance to the accepted Intervenors in our city, given the short timeline for Intervenors to submit Information Request(s) to the NEB, the general overwhelming nature of the very large application filed by Kinder Morgan, and the lack of available resources and information to enable citizens to respond.

The City has prepared this Information Package to assist you in filing your “Information Requests” with the NEB, which are due MAY 2, 2014. This package includes:

1.  A Letter from Mayor Derek Corrigan, on behalf of Council

2. The Hearing Order (from the NEB)
This is the NEB’s outline of the Hearing Process.

3. Preparing Your Information Request(s)
This includes an outline on how to write Information Request(s), including a description of the components that make up the request(s), and sample information requests to help you get started.

4. Website Links to Help You Navigate
This includes key website links to help you navigate both the TMEP application and the NEB website.

5. Contact Information List
This is a list of contact information for Burnaby Mayor and Council, local MLA’s, local MPs, and other public figures you may wish to write letters to, expressing your concerns or comments regarding the Kinder Morgan Trans Mountain Expansion Project.

6. Request for extension of May 2, 1014, deadline for first round of Information Requests to Trans Mountain – Letter Template
As you may know, the National Energy Board has set May 2, 2014 as the deadline for submission of the first round of Information Requests to Trans Mountain. If you are concerned that this deadline allows too short a timeframe for preparation of your Information Requests, you may wish to send the following letter, with the appropriate additions, to the National Energy Board, under your signature.

In a second email, to follow shortly, the City of Burnaby would like to invite you to two face-to-face meetings to provide you with an opportunity to meet other Intervenors, share knowledge with one another, and for the City to share its knowledge with you.

Thank you.
