Kids' Own in partnership with County Waterford Library Service and Waterford County Childcare Committee are proud to present Developing Language and Creativity through the Arts in the Early Years – A Collaborative Approach, a seminar to share and explore the learning from the recent collaboration of these groups, to promote and support the development of language and creativity through the arts in the early years.

1.30 – Welcome & Overview of the seminar – Paddy Lavelle CEO, County Waterford VEC
1.35 - Overview about the day
The aim of the day is
· To share the learning from the collaboration between County Waterford Library
Service, Kids' Own and Waterford County Childcare Committee.
· To describe the programme of activity that took place and the impact on parents
and children participating and those facilitating/delivering the programme.
· To be informed about national policy in relation to literacy.
· To explore how we can support the implementation of national policy at a local
level, working with key stakeholders in a time of stringent resources.
1.35 - Collaboration – Orla Kenny (Kids' Own), Tracy McEneaney (County Waterford
Library Service) and Rose Murphy (Waterford County Childcare Committee)
share the learning from the collaboration between County Waterford Library
Service, Kids' Own Publishing Partnership and Waterford County Childcare
Committee to support the programme of activity that took place.
1.50 - Rannta na nDeise – Artist Polly Minett describes the programme of activity that
took place and the impact for the parents and children participating.
2.00 - Áine McKenna (Researcher with the University of Ulster, School of
Psychology) gives an overview of the research conducted alongside the
project and a summary of the preliminary findings.
2.20 - National Policy - Catherine Hynes from Early Years Education Policy Unit shares
an overview of The National Strategy to Improve Literacy and Numeracy among
Children and Young People 2011-2020, and the vision of the Department for its
implementation at a local level.
2.40 - Café Talk - seminar participants enjoy a cup of tea/coffee and engage in small
group discussion about the issues / ideas arising for them from the proceedings
and prepare questions for the panel of speakers.

4.00 - Launch of New Book, "Wiggly Woo agus a Chairde", Tramore Library
Join us after the seminar in Tramore Library for a celebration to launch our new book
created by parents and their young children in County Waterford. The book will be
officially launched by Ciara Conway, TD.
